would not alot of water get through the seems if it is done this way, this would rot foam underneath would it not?

it'll be good as long as you don't let your boat fill up with water and leave it.

Yup, just like grub mentioned, keep it drained and the flotation will likely outlast you;)

Re: 1981 Starcraft SS 16' rebuild

Yes, I remember that from my coast guard days, we had a 21 foot TANB I used on the saint mary's river in Michigan for 3 years.

this boat was rotted because the tarp my father had he let full with water, freeze and refill, he never emptied it out, so it rotted and water poured in. The drain was clogged because of weeds and stuff. Common sense and a boat will last you for years. (it also sux because it was a form fitted cover which I probably will not be able to replace)

I already epoxied the wood last week, so it was done, Installed it tonight. going to put the splashwell and stuff in place tomorrow. The probably carpet. I am probably going to get done before the motor has a chance to be looked at which will suck. All the mechanics I know are backlogged. I may have to try to work on it myself..

I wouldn't worry to much about the carpet. I glued mine down to the plywood which was sealed all the way round and I'm guessing that it will last for years if it is properly maintained. the original plywood in my boat lasted for 47 years and had carpet on it...could be overthinking the issue.

Re: 1981 Starcraft SS 16' rebuild

Hey guys. Sorry I have not posted, been busy. It just started to rain so had to cover quickly. so did not get any picks, Will have alot of picks here real soon. I did lay the carpet. Re, installed the splashwell and also the console frames. We have the side parts covered with vynyl and or carpet, and are getting the front seats re-upholstered. Have the consols cut, and wife is staining and sealing them now (can't wait to show picks, they look awsome) anyway, I have a question. I have a 1981 johnson 50HP engine, My father lost the key, and have been looking for a new ignition switch for the command center. I can find the 5 pin switches for this model. But mine is a 6 pin. I guess I would like suggestions?

Check marineengine.com for your ignition swith. You should be able to find it by your motors model number.

Here is transom, I used screws to cover all the holes, and sealed all of them as recommended.

Boat looks real good B!

I like your color choice for the carpet, fish blood shouldn't show up on that too bad.

Re: 1981 Starcraft SS 16' rebuild

Been posting pics on facebook, not sure if my brother has shown him or not. I know he want to go out on it. Not even sure I will get it in the water this year. Still trying to find someone to help with the motor. We are going to put the origional seats back in. Fixing them up, they are looking nice.

Re: 1981 Starcraft SS 16' rebuild

Old hurricane is on us, Been covering and uncovering boat alot the last few days. Have everything in place to finish the inside of the boat when we get better whether, and ordered a new wiring harness for the motor (I untaped the harness to see if I could save it, and all the insulation just crumbled when i touched it) anyway, My tarp is starting to tear in places. I have been looking for a good boat cover, But I see there are non (at least that I can find) which are made for this boat. Any suggestions? I have seen one at IBoats, and some at a few other places. just wondering which one fit well. I am going to add snaps, as I already have the snaps on the boat.
