Thanks Jig! I can say that it feels and sounds much different inside already.

Welcome to the party segiroux. Thanks for the positive words. This boat keeps me off the streets and out of jail :)

Just wait until you get that nice new light and dry floatation foam in, it'll really sound different then!

Wish you lived closer so I could come over and help... or at least harass you real good in person.:watermelon:

I know what you mean. lol it may keep you out of jail, but it wont keep you out of trouble....usually with the first mate. luckily the restore I did was before I had anyone to complain about me being in the garage all the time and then getting into bed covered in itchy glass.

Scribed and fit both pieces of lumber last night, cutting the top edge at about an 8 degree angle to match the angle of the sides of the hull, so that the mating surface for the sole will be aligned.

Used the router to round over the upper, inward-facing edge to make glassing easier, then gave them a good long drink of resin (about 16 oz between the pair)

Good thing I moved the horses up close to the garage door and under the overhang before bed last night. It poured several times today.

Probably bed them in and fillet this weekend.

Just for yucks, three more pics of ripping down the new pieces, routing the edge, and painting on the epoxy, courtesy of one of my security cameras:

And yes, there was grill-related multitasking going on during the last two. :)

Tonight (yes, while grilling ...) I took the orbital sander to the two pieces of resin coated lumber to knock down drips that had formed.

Placed both into position:

and placed small braces against the stringers to force them to adapt to the slight curve in the hull:

They are held off the bottom by 1/8" thick spacers:

The plan for tomorrow, weather permitting, is to measure out materials for making PB to bed and glue these in. Maybe do some fillets.

Oh, and grill something.

Thanks GT! I'm eager to get the rear sole in place so I can bilge paint and then put the tank back where it belongs. Then I can get busy with the fore half of this beast.

Re: 1981 Bayliner Victoria 2750 - Restore or Bust

I wanted to bed the two ledgers and glue them to the hull today. At 12' long by 6" high, they were going to need a lot of PB.

All I had for milled fibers were the System 3 fibers that I got from Jamestown. They don't make PB that that tools well.

I also had 4 quarts of fine sawdust on hand (saved from ripping and routing stringers). I used an old food processor to mill the sawdust into wood flour. Then I let the food processor work on the milled fibers for a while. It helped break them down to a finer consistency and separated the little clumps. I mixed roughly equal parts and made about a gallon of filler:

which makes PB that actually looks a lot like peanut butter:

And nearly a gallon of resin combined with all that filler made just enough to glue, bed, and fillet both ledgers:

Today's work was to encapsulate the ledgers in glass:

And in doing so, the last gallon of resin has also been tapped into, which means I'll have to make another USComposites order in the near future. I should have enough to tab in the sole on either side of the tank cradle, which is good, because I'll need to bilge paint under the tank before I put it into place.

I'll need to choose a good quality paint for that area, as I hope to never see it ever again. I suppose maybe it really doesn't even need to be painted as it'll never see UV under there... Hmmm.

I don't think painting the area under the tank can hurt anything,...

If nothing else it might give some protection from water should any ever get back in there,...

I agree, you can never have too many coats of paint/resin covering fiberglass and/or wood.

Are you going to put any foam back in that boat GW? Deck support?

Absolutely. Not so much to support the sole, but to provide additional rigidity to the hull, and of course, flotation. I don't plan on testing it, but if something were to happen while I was out in the middle of the big O, I'd like to think I might be able to continue to use the radio from above the surface of the water ...

The area on either side of the tank is an inch or two deeper than original, so I get an additional 2 cu ft of foam there. I'll try to see if I can maintain the original volumes up front too.

Ive been back and forth about what to use below deck and in the bilge, was gonna use a polyurethane enamel (similar to Imron), but I may have setteled on SW Seaguard 6000, depending on price, its good below water line, bilges, and tank lining.

SeaGuard 6000 - Marine Epoxy - Protective & Marine

I can get it locally...
