I'll be painting the top cap w/ WOGs technique using white gloss Rustoleum tractor paint over Rustoleum primer, worked out well enough for the hull portion!

I think you've done a great job. And I too use the powder guide coat when I prep things for primer and paint. It is worth the extra effort in my opinion. As for the paint, I hope you're adding the hardener to that paint. Otherwise it will get gummy if fuel is leaked on it. But seems you already know that the prep IS the time to get that great finish you're wanting. Once you have it all prepped, the rest is gravy.

I indeed am, I'm using Woodonglass 's tractor paint technique, I'm using Rustoleum tractor paint with the majic paint brand hardener/reducer.

Busy Saturday!

The long and the short of it, I got two layers of primer down and tomorrow morning bright and early will be laying down two coats of white.

Luckily, I was able to recruit my automotive painter buddies service again (pro-bono lol) - here he is, hard at work.

It came out REALLY good. I'm quite excited.

You may have noticed I taped off the splash well, so I'm planning on using gelcoat instead of paint in the splash well, as it's going to have sitting water in it like most of the time, probably even when on land, so I figured why not!

What did he think of spraying the tractor Paint? Did he LIke it? Had he ever used/heard of it before?

Thanks everybody! Finally working my way into the fun part of the project, putting it all together! I have a lot of experience with DC electrical systems, so I'm quite excited to work on all that.

He enjoyed it, certainly new to him though but we were both really happy with the results. He wasn't familiar, but his experience is limited, he worked manufacturing high end automotive paint for a distributor for Eastwood, and spraying out tests of the batches. So he's a good sprayer and understands the chemical makeup of this stuff but this mix was all new to him, so he was having a good time with this setup!

GREAT!!! This is More of an OLD SCHOOL formula but...It still is quite effective and I'm sure you'll find that it's very durable. How many coats did you spray?

Yeah, seems pretty durable, I'm really happy with how it came out, thanks again - really love this formula. Today my buddy said it sprays out just as easy as anything else he's ever sprayed out in the automotive world, and the results speak wonders as well!

Today's work came out GREAT, very very little orange peel as opposed to last time, I suppose between us sorta figuring out the best process and the weather being far cooler today than it was when we painted the bottom hull.

I did 2 coats primer, came back the next morning, sanded it down w/ 320 grit, then laid two coats of white - bit thicker layup on the second coat.

Also, on the deck I over drilled the spots where the hatches will be screwed in, then fill with some epoxy.

Thanks folks!

Took a look at it this morning now that it's dry, and man...it came out PERFECT. Seems just about fully cured (I'll still let it sit and bake in the sun a few days) - hard as a rock. Scratch test results were good, far better than the hull when I tested it at this point. The hull took a few weeks of baking in the sun to fully harden up, this seems to be about 100% already. VERY excited.

General question. What do you do when you get your project boat built and someone comes along and offers you an interesting sum of money for it? Do you sell or not? Just wondering...

Everybody's got a price lol. My "if you want it here's the price" price is far above the actual "estimated" value so I know that'll never happen. I'm not even kidding I'd ask for around $18,000 if someone wanted to buy it once done, and we all know that asking price is insane, despite literally every component of the boat being brand new besides the original hull.

I love the boat, but as expected I'd like something bigger....eventually. Anyway, being realistic, I'll hold on to this for at least the next 4 - 6 years...

Yeah I waited 3 months before I buffed and waxed it. Just to make sure the chemical reaction cure was all done. Probably coulda dun it sooner but, it looked great without it!!!
