A few things....

Got my antanae mount problem figured out. I got a rail mount type. I'm going to have a 1" piece of solid round aluminum coming up through the gunnel so I can mount the ratchet real low. I'll have to brace it up underneath with some plate. That's a socket for a visual.

Best way to make these look new and stay looking new?

These are my lower seat cushion boards. How much gap should I allow between the boards??

I think a Dremel with some polishing rouge would shine them right up.

Polish 'em up and spray some clear on the pieces. Some clear is better than others as in non-yellowing, but I don't remember which are best.

York and GA got it - or you could go with Shark Hide after you polish (or go with the brushed look).

They have some dock rash so I might take the belt sander to them and then hand sand the rest to get an even finish. I think the brushed look would look nice. How is your stuff holding up so far?

Really well, I like the "brushed" look too. Shark Hide is key to keeping that kind of stuff looking good though.

I wonder how something like Rusto Clear Coat would hold up by comparison?

I'd give them a minimum 1/4" if all you're going to see afterward is the front edge and that's assuming there's no wiggle in the hinge. Any less than that may require a future butcher job with changes due to humidity, wear and abuse. You could make it wide enough so kids' fingers can't get hurt. - Grandad

I wonder what the custom wheel peeps use? Now that's a durable coating. Wonder if it's clear powder coat?

I had a mountain bike powdercoated once. It was only $40 to strip, prep, and coat it. Five years later it still looks great. I also restored a 1980 Toro 826 Snowblower (all steel) that I had powdercoated. Very durable stuff.

I thought I'd start a new thread to get this project going. I plan on starting to take things apart in a few weeks after we go on vacation and I finish a few honey-do's. I did get it into the garage and it's fits better than I thought. There will even be room for the mama-mobile.

I have many questions but won't dump tham all on you now. I am very mechanically inclined and work in the Tool and Die trade, but this is my first boat restore. We plan to restore it back to original (paint scheme and upholostery) and maybe add a matching bench across the back. I plan to take it down to the bare hull and fix everything that it needs. I don't fish but look forward to help and ideas you guys may have.
A couple things I'm wondering about:
Paint: Can this truly be a do-it-yourself thing and make it durable and look as good as original? I have patience and can follow detailed step-by-steps as far as prep and stuff.
Holes: What's the best way to fill small drilled holes in the gunwalls and dash? Epoxy? or should they be filled with weld and smoothed out?
Rivets: I know there are a few that need to be replaced. What all do I need to do this and how? I will be getting some Gluvit as well.
New Floor and possibly transom: Coat it with what? Fiberglass mat too? Do I need marine ply? Or what's the next best thing?
Rub Rail: Is new availiable? (the rubber part)
I could go on and on, but we're just getting started. :))

I have that exact same Hull.
I love my boat. I went for a totally custom rig though.
