Re: 1979 22' Starcraft SuperSport V5 Restoration

Just had an ah ha moment. My 14'er is sitting 10' away and has the exact hinges I'm thinking about. No wonder I thought I saw them somewhere! LOL

I found mine at a marina but it was also the 3rd marina I stopped in at. I have been following your project and would love to find a 22 footer to restore for myself.

Probably not called anything different that "Piano Hinge" when you search. It's just all about the way it swings.

Look at my sketch above, I want it to screw into the bottom of the hatch, not the end. I may have to try my local dealer next week...

Just went through your whole thread!

WOW!!! Excellent job so far! can't wait to see your paint, I'm thinking of a similar color combo.

Will be following closely as work & down time from my own rebuild permit.

Sorry DJ, I think I used almost all of what I had on the Jet and SN. I may have a couple left here somewhere.

WOG gave you the hook up though, that's a great price on em too!

DJ, it's gonna be tricky trying to attach your hinge to 1/2" plywood. If you use the double wrap type that are stronger than the simple butt hinge, you'll find that 1/2" wood screws won't hold well and will likely fail. I suggest you plan on using bolts (carriage head type?) or glue a second plywood layer to the backside of both the lid and the decking to support 1" wood screws. Also, you may find that the wing style in a heavy enough material may have a 1" rise anyway. I used a standard butt hinge and a plywood scab on the backside as in the picture below. My lids are 2 layers of 1/2" plus another 1/2" to accommodate the heavy 1 1/2" hinge I was using. I've tried all day to insert a picture via Photobucket's IMG Code, but nothing's working, so I'm experimenting with other methods. - Grandad

Yeah, thanks for the tip. My hatch openings have factory aluminum supports all the way around so the hinge doesn't need to support much weight, just the door. The hinges I need are the exact ones I have on my SC 14'er. I'm pretty sure my local boat shop will have or be able to get them. If the hinge needed to support weight, then definitely through bolts would be the way to go.

I would need 1/2" rise hinges which I can't seem to find online.

Can't find them dang hinges! I found some local but they were 3/4" high not 1/2". I can't shim them down as there is an aluminum support all the way around the hatch.
Keep an eye out for me peeps!

Dave - I have 4 of those off the old fold down lounge seats. They are about 8" long, but I'm not sure how deep they are. I'll check tomorrow and let you know.

Dave - My measurements

On the Wolf hinges I don't know if their B/C 3/4" is from the inside to the top of the hinge or what. That's why I gave the B/C with the 1/4" difference. If you are using carpet or vinyl, the hinge will be slightly proud of the carpet/vinyl.

Almost forgot - my hinges are 9" long and I have four of them.

Thanks, but I need C dimension to be 1/2". Appreciate you checking!

I'm thinking what Glen proposed will be the route I'll have to take. Starcraft must bend them up at the factory to what they need. Hard to believe though we can't find them, seems a 1/2 hatch would be pretty common.

Got my dash panel laser cut today. Threw in a couple switches...

Not sure how I feel about the emblems, they're a little to heavy duty (thick). I had them cut from the same 11 gauge SS. The v5 one is perfect, the other two got some burn marks. I think I'll get some thinner material and have them try again. So far they cost me nothing.
