Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Have you considered getting the little ones started on reassmebling/installing the I/O?

That would keep them busy and out of trouble and you can still make progress.

"No, no...don't put those gummy bears in the valves":D

Man, they love taking things apart and putting them back together in creative ways! What a great idea!

I'll have them get started right away, good call!:D

Tell ya what buddy, it looks like we have some great weather this week. Mid 70's and mostly sunny, great for boat building!

What stinks is that I am packing and on my way to Florida this week for a family wedding, rats!

Ah well, the kiddos will get to meet Shamu, they will love that!

Cheers:D

Jas, you know it's winter when the maximum is lower than the summer minimum! It's actually heaps more pleasant than our summers which are very hot and humid... Enjoy the wedding in sunny FLA, I'm reliably informed it's HOT and HUMID - get the aircon regassed mate! :D
PS: Back to topic - how's the mighty Islander?

I'll be down the St. Petes area. I am hearing all that black slick stuff is still well north and west of that area so we should be able to leave our hazmat suits at home for this trip. Man what a terrible horrible mess!

Yah, I am thinking humid and 90's down there in FL. Ah, we got a pool and the beach, it's all good!

Topic, right, lets try that, good call TII. I am easily distracted by bright objects and pizza, sorry...

I have been doing a bunch of planning and thinking type stuff. I have also bought some gear too. I'll see if I can snap some photos and post up.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK, reporting back...

I picked up a few trailer items since that is my focus (when I can find the time, ugh).

Got myself a nice shiny new 5000# coupler...

Picked up a nice set of LED's on sale at TSC...
P1020453.jpg

They had a battery hooked up so I could just hit the button and light em up, the kids loved that!
P1020454.jpg

I picked up a pair of clearance LED's at Menard's. I use these a ton as my driveway is a VERY tight fit with the trees, these will help me out big time...
P1020461.jpg

I picked up these bunk brackets that were mis marked at $3 each, and they gave them to me at that price, sweet! I'll need to bolt on the swivel but that was a heck of a deal...

I'm pretty happy with all this gear and got great deals across the board!:D

I also picked up some decals, pumped about that!

This one is for the trailer, black lettering over a white trailer, 18" long...
P1020456.jpg

This one is for the big girl, white lettering over a black hull, 30" long...

I might be getting ahead of myself but these are great motivators!

And......

I picked up my livewell, or maybe just a fish box, just over 37 gallons (150 quarts), super special KMart deal at $70...

No leaks and I didn't have to take all that time to build one out of fiberglass!

I have a variety of ideas on how to make this work but I don't think I'll be able to effectively communicate them at this point, I'm wiped. Maybe I'll give it a shot tomorrow, eh!

Cheers fellas:D

No worries, though that reminds me of my wife... when she occasionally manages to drag me around the shops she gets easily distracted. I've learned over the years to just say, "shiney things" to get her back on track! :D

Jas those are some good looking goodies! If you have some time to fish down there, I have always enjoyed the skyway piers. Always piggie perch to occupy the kids, and a lot of big fish too! Favorite beach in the area is Bradenton.

Have fun!

I am particularly jealous of your score on those bunk brackets as I've spent a small fortune on those both for my last (disaster) trailer and my current one.

Yah, we usually head to Bradenton when we are down that way, should be fun!

As for fishing, I think the dads and uncles may just take a charter out to the gulf and see what we can do. That will be fun! The kings running this time of year?

Yah, how was that for a sweet score!

I debated quite a bit over the four bunks v. the pair of bunks plus rollers for my trailer. At that price I think the debate is over, four bunks it is. Huge savings right there!!!!

I was nervous about going with rollers as my keel has a little damage from the previous owner loading it on the crushed/rotted/exposed shafts. I'm thinking I won't be able to repair that keel to its original strength and am guessing that rollers may very well bust up any work/repair that I do. I may have gone the other way had my keel been 100% intact.

Cheers!

That cooler will be a good one to make a livewell. I've been looking for a good deal like that, nice score!

Plenty of room to stack up 6-7 salmon on ice in there(or several hundred perch).:D

Enough shopping, now get to work on that trailer:p

I have always thought the same thing but over the weekend I did see a Lund that had been damaged from bunks:eek: I didn't know that was possible. I guess it depends on the setup.

Maybe one of these to help protect the keel just for peace of mind?

Yah, I think I might even go to 2x6 as opposed to 2x4 for bunks just for that extra love and support, eh!
