As all have said before me, Awesome Job!!:hail:
Did you hand sand all the teak or did you run it through a wood planer?

This is my second post on here, I have been watching your thread for a little while and I finally pulled the trigger and got an old Starcraft islander to restore. Anyways I just wanted to let you know that what you have done here is inspiring.

Hey fellas, got the Islander summerized and out last weekend....she started right up and ran awesome all weekend:thumb:

The water temps were only in the mid 40's so no tubing. I got out and swam for just a couple of minuets, system shocker! All the same, the swim platform is awesome. With the boat moored offshore getting in and out from the tender is a lot easier now. I know it'll be perfect for summer fun once the water temps come up just a bit.

Hey decker, I ran each individual piece through the planner, all four sides, probably 10x each side just taking off a little at a time. Took me forever but it turned out great! After some reading and research on finishing off teak I opted to simply let it weather/age and go grey with time (just like me).

EJ, congrats on your new Islander! It's been a long road for me but I do love mine. It turned out to be a solid all around family fun boat. All the best on yours!

I owe you guys some photos of the platform in action, I'll shoot a few next time we are out.

Cheers:joyous:

Great news. Time to enter for SOTY or resto of the year?

Good question....

Well I do have a very short list to crank out so I can actually call this boat finished:

1. Re route my fuel lines (more on that later)
2. Install batts up on the transom (more on that later too)
3. Jump seats on each side of the dog house.
4. Teak plate installed at the bow cockpit.
5. Install swim platform ladder

Done!

I also need to install a rear vinyl curtain to cover up all the rigging at the transom, plus a vinyl snap in bow cover. I want to whip up snap in carpet too. I'll call these pieces "add ons", not necessary for completion, eh.

Now, as for the Starcraft Of The Year......actually this new boat is feeling like, and looking like, a "used" boat now. I'm perfectly fine with it being "used", we are having lots of fun with it! So, dunno if it's worthy of that honor. I'll get finish photos and let you guys decide that:encouragement:

For those of you who might like to learn from my mistakes!

Short version:

My fuel system was really slow for filling as I didn't provide enough "positive flow" when I originally routed the fill lines. I really needed to provide a bit more direct flow/angle. You can see how I routed them here...

I thought that might be all ok, but, I was wrong. Lesson learned.

I was very motivated to install those batts as far forward as I could. However, even with giant batt cables, I was still getting a bit of voltage drop. So, bottom line, batts are best installed right next to the engine. Lesson learned. If I want weight forward I'll need to use other stuff like fuel tanks and whatnot.

So here's a quick video for ya...

Oh yah, I need to add one more to the list, new guide on's. I snapped one of them last weekend while launching. It was bound to happen, so I don't feel so bad. The ones I installed were salvaged/modified PVC guide on's from a scrapped boat. This Islander needed steel one's anyhow.

That said, I can take three off the list....

I got the fuel lines re routed so hopefully that will be a lot easier at the pump.

Sitting in the boat last night, thinking, I decided I really don't need the stern jump seats. I have plenty of seating already and haven't felt the need to have extra seats so far. Plus, I do like being able to walk right up to the stern to help kids in the boat, or check the outdrive, or deal with fishing line or whatever. So, I'm skipping the jump seats. If I feel I'd like them down the road I can always add them in later pretty easily.

I also got that bow plate/trim piece rehabbed and installed.

I think that finishes the bow nicely and ties into the swim platform well:thumb:

I like your reasoning on the jump seats and the bow looks even better now!

All right, on my list up there ^^^^.....I mounted the swim platform ladder and didn't really like it, so, off it came.

I did get the batts installed where I like them so those are all set.

The rest of the list is done or omitted.

I yet have the bow cover and stern side curtains to cover the batts/mechanicals, tose will get sewn up at the canvas shop, that will happen later on.

What does that mean?

DONE!!

We are headed up to the big lake this week so I'll post up some photos of the completed boat in action.

Cheers, all the best, and thanks for all your help along the way guys!
