Impressive Jas. I have a slightly off topic question... how would you cut 4mm thick 5083 plate alloy? I need to cut two six-inch diameter round holes for speakers and she's tough as all get out to drill through let alone using a nibbler and such like. As you're doing such a great job fabricating the alloy on the Islander, maybe you have some inspirational idea that won't cost me the earth. Any advice appreciated!

Nice work J, you're slugging away at this and she's looking better all the time
Are you thinking about some jump seats on either side of the doghouse? Seems like you have lots of room back there to work with.
Looking good jas. I hate to tell you, but it's mid-70's and sunny as can be in my neck of the woods.
Well to be sure I am certainly no pro! I wing about every step I take!
I have been using my sawzall and grinder with a metal cutting blade to do most of this stuff.
I suppose if I were in your shoes I'd drill a hole through and then take a jigsaw with a nice sharp metal cutting blade to cut the circle. Maybe clean it up with a dremel tool and a grinding head. Purely a guess though my friend!
Tell ya what, haul it on over to my place we'll see if we can knock it out. I'll throw burgers on the grill! If you leave now my rig should be done by the time you get here!
Cheers Buddy!
Yah, thanks a bunch man (insert sarcastic face here) - next you'll tell me you can see mountains from your place too huh! (I love mountains)
Kinda like this? Seems like a good idea to me...I like the idea of it folding up when not in use. I want to keep my SS as open as possible in case I need an open deck(camping on boat, etc).
Glad ta see you're enjoying this cold spell as much as I am
Thanks Jas... everyone here is saying jigsaw so I'll go with that advice. As to hauling it over to your place, how about you bring the tools over here and I'll throw some shrimps on the barbie while you do the work! Cheers!!
Well, that's not too far from the truth, ever hear of Colorado National Monument?
I'll tell you what though, that slice of heaven you've got going on is pretty nice too! I do miss the trees of the midwest sometimes...
What a productive day. Some days are definately better than others.
I like how the alum work turned out again. The heating and bending was a cool day to avoid the cuts. You'll be onto the transom soon enough.
Yah, I lived in CO for a little while as I was a Wilderness Ranger in the Collegiate Peaks, Sangre De Cristo, and Lost Creek Wilderness areas. I home based in Leadville and Bailey. Did a lot of climbing out that way. Spent some time at Rocky Mountain National Park climbing/hiking too. Man you have a beautiful state!
When I was out there I really missed the Great Lakes. When I am here I really miss big mountains.
It's all good though, separation makes the heart grow fonder. It is always a special moment when I am driving across the flatlands of eastern CO and can just start to make out the ridgeline of the mighty Rockies. Love it!
I lived in Greely for about 6 months after I got out of the Air Force. I was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. If only Wyoming was closer to the Great Lakes. I love both states (Colorado too) and wish somehow I could split my time.
When I moved back to Michigan I remember driving through Indiana in the early morning. Wow huge trees, I forgot what trees look like. Wow high humidity (June) that's different. It was a big adjustment for me going and coming. I miss tumbleweeds, prairie dogs, antelope, drinking from a cold mountain stream, snow in June............ Fond memories for sure.
hey jas looking really good seams the ideas just keep flowing.
i guess like most of us it's alot of time restoring the boat, and even more time on the thought of restoring the boat.
i was so happy to have the boat flipped to only find that the thing i hated more than painting is removing paint
Great work Jas, Luv how you just 'get after it'. Nice work on the trim as well as over-all with the gunwale idea to begin with! Kudos to you
