Jas, it seems like some of the fishing guys are having good luck with the batteries from walmart. Easy to get, decent warranty, and inexpensive.

I can't wait till I'm at the point I can start putting things together. This is the fun part.

Jason - You know how I feel about flotation  but man-o-man you have art going on! Andy Warhol would be proud of you!!! In 40 years someone pulling that floor up will realize a really cool time capsule, after swallowing the vomit that rises to the tonsils. Have the kiddies been asking for thier toys yet?:eek::eek:

Anyway, the project looks good and splash weather is right around the corner. I'm getting psyched for ya!

See that's what I'm talking about there! A man speaking the truth, eh! I know, I know, looks like carp!

Man, I think the only thing worse would be dumping a bunch of that pour in garbage in there. Yikes, what a mess!;):D

I have actually been working really hard at trying to maintain my noodle count. Kiddos are always asking me for those noodles:D

Well, splash weather may be around the corner but this boat isn't nearly ready for that sort of action. Bummer.

The Tittabawassee River is now wide open. When I rolled by yesterday there were a few boats already floating. Prolly getting ready for the walleye opener.

OK, deck is down! Here is how the last third shook out...

I saved an aluminum sign from being trashed, here is the framework...

I figured I might as well use it. I riveted it in back here, heavy traffic area. Necessary? Nah, kinda just felt like it I spose...

I also had an extra canoe thwart from my guiding days...

I installed that subdeck right in front of where the doghouse will go, beefed it up a bunch (no photo, can't see it anyways).

So here is what the setup looked like right before the deck went down. You'll notice at the right side of the photo I installed a plywood backer, epoxied and a bed of PL laid down to keep the water out. I really wanted that joint to be strong. I also laid a piece of flat stock alum along the ribs there. I struggled with hitting the ribs a little on the other sections so this way I could rivet pretty much anywhere. All noodled up too...

Re: 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I also laid down some PL on these aluminum "tabs"...

Clamped and riveted em...

Here are the the last two pieces installed...

You can now see what I am thinking with my batteries there. I'll have two of them, side by side, in battery boxes. The doghouse will basically have a seat on the front of it to accommodate those batteries. Those two deck pieces used to be one but I chopped out the middle section for the batts, see...

I LIKE it Jas. Another stupid suggestion sir: Go to HF or similiar and buy a couple of those rubber floor mats that are used on garage floors. Cut them to fit in the battery area and rivet them in place to reduce vibration. They are oil and acid proof too. Man that floor is going to be rock solid! Very nice.:D

I think you should have put a Plexiglas floor in to show off your artwork.

Looking great Jas, I know you are proud of the deck being permanently attached. That is some progress and there's no turning back now:D

Good thing you did everything right the first time!

Looking forward to seeing how everything looks when she's put back together. Like I mentioned in the other Islander thread recently, I am really liking the layout and I'm hearing voices in my head telling me to go look at that '83 rig again.:)

Oh no, I think I'm gonna be sick! :p Funny that, I've never been seasick before... however, a plexiglass floor on top of your "artwork" would be a surefire way to keep me "otta" your boat too! :D LOL
