The foam is a half assed attempt to comply with regs. 22 and under require foam. My 27 had none.

Solid plan man, I'm basically doing the same approach with a number of things on mine. The wiring is the more important (and time consuming) work, swapping in newer switches later should be easy. Looking forward to seeing this baby in the water!
im looking forward to getting it on the water too....... everything is time consuming. but well worth it in the end.....

you may be right, I was just going by memory and at this point in life mine is questionable...
Yeah, mine too! lol I'm no Coast Guardsman but I think he's right about the 20 and under. I bet a lot of manufacturers just threw it in there to be safe on models close to the regulation size. I almost went no foam on my boat but last minute decided to load it up big-time after reading about all the Orca attacks recently. If I didn't, I figured I'd surely encounter homicidal killer whales the first time out into open water šŸ˜…

It really is weird. And no, they're definitely not normally known to attack like that, the recent events are truly unprecedented and it's not like this is happening all the time. But- so far the attacks remain a mystery to scientists..

I would tend to believe, being the highly intelligent apex predators of the seas, that they also have a great memory. Maybe these individuals were previously traumatized by humans somewhere along their global travels or felt the need to defend territorial hunting grounds or a calf from loud and intrusive boats..? Whatever the case- having an incredibly powerful animal like that annoyed with you really is a scary prospect!

even tho man hunts them, these bunch or even just a rogue one, i think has been tormented by passengers or worse .somehow. they dont forget, thats for sure. its out of character for them . usually they are gentle giants.

They definitely don't seem to be malicious to humans naturally so I think you're right, these gentle giants must've been tormented before. Like a dog that cowers or shows its teeth if you grab a rolled newspaper- that behavior didn't just happen on its own. Read about SeaWorld sometime!

i read that 20 and under only needed foam.... wierd......
Aside from the regs - you can do a buoyancy calc as simple or complex as you'd like, to get a rough idea if filling that space (and/or any other spaces) with foam, makes much of a difference at all. Being a wood boat, you'd have to guesstimate how much of the wood gets saturated

its fibreglass not wood. the bulkhead and the cabinet is the only wood

Nice, how big is that 18w panel? Are you planning on mounting this in the rear somewhere with your BBQ setup? I bet you could mount it under a piece of plexi for extra protection and use it like a grill table!! That would be cool. "Eat your food damnit, the batteries are gettin low!" šŸ˜…

The factory railing would be nice to start from if you can find one. Got a few months to shop around before the warm weather returns at least! Any marine salvage yards around where you are?
