Yeah, the old tanks were made by Mirax and you'll probably find they might leak

Welcome aboard,
Yeah those are cool looking Islanders, what I call the old gangster chopped look.

What drive set up does it have now would be the deciding factor in repowering.

Welcome and Congrats!!

Nice big-water rig you towed home!

Lookin' forward of the destruction...err I mean deconstruction...and the rebuild.

I've seen alot of those O/B conversions started but not many completed.

Is this dock rash ...or a bullet hole 😬 🤣

Yea it definitely has some character to it haha that mark is a dent but from a picture definitely looks like its been in a shoot out lol.
Gonna take the outboard route on it just gotta find some info for how to make the hull strong from the inside to support a motor and kicker hanging off the back started gutting it today lots of room to fish compared to my lowe 12 feet compared to 6 ft of usable space from windshield

Well she's pretty well gutted time to pull the motor and outdrive this weekend and start looking at making something to tie the transom into the stringers

Will be tagging along since Im ripping apart a 16’ SS and at a similar stage. Nice boat! Wish I had walleye around here. They are by far one of my favorites to catch and eat.

Not familiar with Islanders, but don't they have a knee brace or two?

No knee braces in either of the two Islanders I have restored. One is a 191V with Sea drive 1.6 OMC and present 22 I/o OMC Cobra drive.

I/O boat had a wood 2x4 laid on a 2x4 which spanned 2 ribs on bottom of hull,Sea Drive unit attached to " bracket" on the transom.

Interesting, so since the motor isn't pushing on the transom or supporting the weight no need for the knee brace. Learned something knew

Having rebuilt a Holiday and a Mariner that had knee braces I was suprised at the lack of knee braces in the bigger boats.I suppose the i/o serves to spread the load over a larger area than an outboard. The same can be said for the Sea Drive unit .That bracket has got to be 12"x 20" at least.

Have you replaced the transom wood on an islander

Yes ,I have replaced the transom on the Islander with the Sea drive unit and also did a Slyvan 22' Offshore which is very similar to the Islander .That boat was a Mercruiser I/O.

The 22' Islander I am working on now has a good transom in it,which is a Mercruiser I/O.It looks like it was replaced recently, along with motor mount wood.

Yes ,pull corner caps off ,remove aluminum cover over transom ,probably have to pull rub rail partially off. GO to outside of transom and start removing all screws and tiedown hooks, then pull transom wood out thru the top.P.S this is after pulling outdrive and pulling motor forward!!!
