If you can't get the exact measurements from anyone, might try the following. Figure out the aluminum transom size and then cut off 1/2 - 3/4" at each side. Might be able to do a cardboard cutout as well.

To me it looks like the transom has pulled in a bit im just curious what the width is the transom aluminum is bowed out at the top a bit

So I had some of that in mine, and attributed it to stretching from the bad transom and motor bouncing. Since yours is an I/O not the same, but not sure if any starcraft was perfectly flat even from factory.

I see, the bowed out transom skin is not a concern, the transom wood doesn't "stretch" from the sides as the wood doesn't even touch the sides.

Take a look at the transom skin on my Chief with the old rotten wood still there it was bowed too, real bad after the fasteners and cap were removed. It'll all suck back together just fine.

If you are going to change your transom, I would highly suggest taking ideas from whats called an Offshore Bracket. Out in the PNW a lot of the new boats are built this way, it leaves a bunch of room for storage/kill boxes/fish coolers/etc. Check out the attached picture, I am sitting on top of one.

Hope you don’t need any parts for those reels...they don’t exist. Worst parts support in the industry

All I run is okumas and never had issues with them.
On a side note got some conduit for my wiring to run through.

Any idea how many wires you plan on running through your conduit?

Bracket would depend on the shaft length of your motor. General sizes are:

Short Shaft: 15
Long Shaft: 20
X- Long Shaft: 25

Measurement is from top of transom to top of the ventilation plate. Ventilation plate being in line with lowest point of stern. That should give you a fair idea on bracket placement.

Most bracketed boats run a 25" shaft outboard to keep the motor out of the water at rest.Do some research, there is a formula they use for length of bracket to height on the transom,My 19v islander has a 25" shaft OMC outboard on a Seadrive bracket from Starcraft.

I've been looking online looks like general rule of thumb for brackets is 1" of height per ft of setback on the bracket

Looks like a great project! I'm in the rebuilding phase of my 1984 Islander i/o to outboard bracket conversion. I really like your idea of putting the solid strapping / bracing across the stringers. That will really lock everything together and give great support to your floor. What thickness of aluminum are you putting down on the floor? I'm going with .125 for mine. Are you going to do sheet foam or pour in foam for flotation? After taking out close to 900# of waterlogged pour in foam, I'm going with sheet foam.
