If you can, rivets are the preferred method. SS Bolts with nylon lock nut work well too. Screws have a tendency to loosen over time.

I ordered a pneumatic rivet gun hopefully that will keep the rivets nice and tight

Got the old transom wood cleaned out finally what a pain it was pretty swollen. Here's my idea for tieing the top of my transom in going to have a cap made instead of the flimsy piece that only goes on the inside of the boat

That will be excellent ! If your planning on putting any down riggers on the back , might be a good time to put in some plates for reinforcement. You can definitely build off your beam, that was a good idea.

So you going to use some aluminum tubeing or wood braces to tie it to the transom?

Once you get the plan and a clean slate it's all about making the boat what you need, just like I did with my SS and Chief.

Man look at all that room!!!! I wish I had the room for such a restoration...

You going to add some PVC runs for wiring and such while you have the floor open?

Total transom width with the boat intact? Should be able to get close with what you have to measure, my 22' 79 is an 25" OB transom so can't imagine it would be the same.

Mine has a splashwell there still so no way I can get an accurate measurement even if they were the same. I can measure from the outside edge to edge but inside there's no way.

If you can't get the exact measurements from anyone, might try the following. Figure out the aluminum transom size and then cut off 1/2 - 3/4" at each side. Might be able to do a cardboard cutout as well.
