Hey Y'all...

Well, the boat is painted on the bottom and primed for the rest... we made our color choices and are now getting ready to wire the electrical system...I'm really happy with the progress...

More to come!

Jonny - looks really good. What paint did you go with? A fresh paint job is always a sign of good things to come.

Things are going really well... Troy continues to wire the boat and Pete is taking care of the woodwork and Raptor Liner... Tony and I are deciding on the remaining issues and then it's the home stretch!

Here are a few photos of the progress...

Jonny

Some Raptor Liner on the side panels and deck... It's going to be nice and easy to clean...

The batteries are mounted and wired - 2 bilge pumps are installed...

We mocked up the dash and stairs... I got rid of the vinyl where the steering wheel was mounted, as well as the dash face with shelf and went with recovered cypress from the bottom of the Cape Fear River...

We are flush-mounting the GPS top the right of the steering wheel, and the stereo will be mounted where the glovebox used to be on the stairs...

Continued...

A few alternate views of the work... The bench seat has been rebuilt with marine ply and sprayed with the Raptor Liner... 2 7" speakers and a 10" Sub-woofer holes were cut today and they will be mounted tomorrow... Ordering new marine vinyl for the cushions on the bench seat... The bench seat wood was not marine ply, but exterior ply - the foam is in decent shape will be used...

Continued...

The new shelf made of recovered cypress... The deteriorated exterior ply from the original seat - was curious that Starcraft didn't seal the wood...

What would you catch below 450 feet LOL I had one of the Eagle called Map pro and it worked very well. I do not go out on the open Ocean soe the charts were mainly to see my way in the fog ( at least where I was in relation to the shore.

Puget, it's not so much finding fish below 450' as locating bottom contours. in one area i fish, the bottom drops off abruptly from a few hundred feet to over 1600, and then there's a reef at about 450' runnning south from one island....again, it drops off to 1500-2000' on either side. both areas create temp breaks and are common billfish trolling areas, and bottom fishing on the reef is a good fall-back if the pelagics ain't cooperating. but for the open 12' boat i'm using now, that unit i have is just perfect.

Jonny, your boat is looking great. love the idea of salvaged wood....that stuff makes great guitars too, very dense due to the absorbed minerals etc and thus great tonewood. and i figure it's had a fairly thorough rot test.......(yeah, i know this is not an issue with most any cypress, sinker wood or otherwise)

Nice and clean looking, jonny. Like the recycled cypress. I don't think Starcraft did anything to the ply. just cut it and stuck it. The seats most likely came from a supplier and had the same lack of preservatives. My seats in my '66 are by B and M, who ever they are. Same kind of ply and yours looks better than mine.

Hey Puget... I'm not the fishing type, but have already told my friends they can take it out whenever they want... Personally, I'm looking forward to exploring the Upper Cape Fear River, as well as heading up and down the Intracoastal Waterway... There is also a great place called Bald Head Island, just off the shore of Southport, NC, that we are looking to visit from time to time...

Thanks Barato and GA... The Recovered Cypress is just beautiful - and yes, the minerals that have infused these particular pieces of wood and enhance the character is amazing... I had looked at a number of options (there is a place here called Anchor Hardwoods), and aesthetically, I loved the look and they idea it was recovered from the Cape Fear only added to the decision...

I went by the shop today and things are moving quickly... We could have the boat painted by next Monday or Tuesday... I'm enjoying the process...

Thanks again,

Jonny

The painting continues... I am very happy with the progress and am getting into the next phase of seats/upholstery... We put some non-slip paint on the bow and stern... Also applied some Blue Raptor Liner inside the side compartments... It's coming along...

The next big decision... The Motor! I have the original Evinrude 135 in great condition... The issue now is charging the batteries...

Re: 1974 21' Starcraft Holiday (first time boat owner)

Welcome, and nice boat! We don't see many with a rear bench. My wife really wants me to add one to ours. Does it flip up or pull out or do anything fancy?

If you get a chance, could you snap a few pics of how it's constructed? I'm curious to know if there's storage in it and also how's the back cushion held on place.

Thanks.
I have a 22 holiday with a rear full seat and t is out of the boat. Ill take a few shot and email them to you if interested MY boat is a 95 22 ft Holiday with 200 ob and 9.9 kicker on the rear fully loaded with electronics and down riggers ( Scotty El. ) will also throw, in a photo of the boat I just love to show it off, it is all origional except the bow anchor. PM me with email and they will be on the way tomorrow. Pugetsound.

Thanks JAS..

My friend Pete, who, along with Tony and Troy are doing the heavy lifting, is a wonderful Kayak builder... Very talented guy for sure... We are working out of his shop right now.
