Well I did get the old 2.5 running for awhile...got a video if I can figure out how to post it..and blew the head gasket on it,, the Valve head is warped,, so not spending a bunch of bills on a new head.. thinking of just removing the engine, and putting a bracket and a 115 evinrude e tech on it...

Been a long winter here,, cant wait to work on the old girl soon,, going to pull the engine out, and get to work on replacing the transom and beefing up some bracing from the stringers to the transom to support the extra weight of a bracket and outboard. I know its alot more money to setup this way but I cant refuse the extra room in the boat, and hopefully increase the value of the boat.

The bracket and a 115 won't weigh as much as that cast iron lump and outdrive. If nothing else it would be cheaper to get a donor boat with a 3.0L Alpha One set up, lots of them out there on the cheap.

Been thinking about the expense of a bracket and the off set weight and came across MicaelP and his Chieftan rebuild, came out sooooo nice! Looks like turning the Islander into an OB with a splash well maybe the direction I want to go.. no weight way off the back,, free up some room in the boat, and install some knee braces, and install the new transom and install a splashwell and done....have it all fabricated up probably for alot less than a bracket.

Yeah he sure did a great job on his Chief alright. Having both an OB and an IO I can say I like both equally when it comes to working on them the OB is a little easier but for cruising nothing beats the IO with that car motor.
