Re: 1969 Starcraft Chieftain Restoration

I brought my wiring harness for the engine to work with me today. I cant stand dirty nasty sticky wires. I like them to be neat and tidy. I started by removing all the greasy black tape.

I then cleaned every strand of wire and used a wire wheel to remove all the corrosion from every terminal. I used convoluted tubing, wire wrap and heat shrink to cover up the wires. The white tape in the middle with be covered later with larger wire wrap. The white tape is fiberglass tape and is holding everything together at that main junction.

This should keep the engine nice and clean looking...

Wow, All those nice clean looking engine parts are great. Awesome details right down to the wiring harness.

One thing I don't see is the Nitrous Oxide boost controls :D

So that's what my parts look like under all that grease.

Keep it going man. Everything from the wiring to painting is picture perfect.

Do ya think these would look good in green?

Me neither. I have to draw the line with the green somewhere...

I am picturing a ghostbuster green outdrive hanging off the back of that chief:eek::eek::eek:

Man, I am way jealous of the two sweet workshops you have for this project! One has a fireplace and the other has a bunch of giant tool boxes with snapon logos. Nice!

Ya, Im surrounded by Snap-On tool boxes. There are over 100 tool boxes in the hangar where I work. I am partial to Matco tools though. Here is my collection of tool boxes. All full of Matco and specialized aviation tools. My drawers are all shadowed so if any tools are missing I can tell at a glance.

Alpheus, you are the man that could make this possible.
Does Rolls Royce make a couple of little jets that you could hang on each side???
Think of the floor space!!:D
(BTW your progress is phenomenal.);)

A fellow AWAC'er wow! Are you doing a restoration or just some small work? If you bring the plane over to the hangar look for the big orange tool boxes, thats usually where you will find me or just ask the guys. I go by the name Alpheus over there and they will tell you where I'm at. I usually come in early or stay late to work on my stuff because those darn CRJ's keep me pretty busy during my shift.
I'm hoping we get some new planes soon, so I can work on my stuff more often...:)

Re: 1969 Starcraft Chieftain Restoration

I'm not doing a full restore per say. I bought it with a cracked blocked. I have since JB welded the block, sea trialed, and now am working on a little bit of interior work that needs to be done. I would post a couple pictures, but am unsure how to post to this site.

Boy some new planes would be nice. Any good rumors over there in the hanger? You ever taxi them over in the morning? I rarely ever bring on into the hanger. But next time i do, ill come lookin for ya.

Today I started to strip the paint off of the outdrive. No I'm not going to paint it green, but it had some bare spots and because its gonna be used in salt water I want it to be sealed up right. After I get it stripped I will use alodine to prep the aluminum then spray on 2 coats of a 2 part epoxy zinc chromate primer. I will be using a 2 part epoxy paint as a top coat. I got a new set of Mercruiser stickers from ebay so she should look brand new when I'm done with it...

If I could thank that post 100 times I would,....

I was so excited seeing the paint stripped off of the outdrive and kept thinking next picture it's going to be green,...........

It's still going to look good,...............But a green outdrive would be almost as cool as a big tiller!!!!!

Yah, an OB would just trip up and smoke out the kings landing there.

Not really. I think the las 14 pages of posts are just a bunch of talk about politics and religion...
