We just got a project boat, first.
V6 engine, would that be a Volvo motor? Or GM, or Ford in that year model?

no model numbers or anything like that yet. I can get the casting numbers off the block and intake. I don't see any other numbers, yet.

You want to figure out two things: which engine and which drive. Your drive could be Mercruiser, OMC or Volvo. Black is most likely Mercruiser, white is either Volvo or OMC. The engine is most likely a Ford or Chevy.

Photos of the drive should tell pretty quickly what you have there. There might be a tag on the engine telling you what model it is.

here are some pics. What can anyone identify here as far as make or size?
looks like OMC out drive?
Maybe Volvo motor?
the outdrive has a bolt hole on the top center. Is that for a grease fitting?
Bolt holes on the water jacket manifolds are for the drain plugs?

thanks

Appears to be the OMC "stringer" outdrive from the same year as the boat. Parts are hard to come by.

That's an OMC electric shift. In 1969 there was only one V6 for them Buick/Jeep 225. You should find a tag on the engine somehwere - typically rear engine mount - and it should read something like HUFM-69M

Was that the V6 they made by essentially chopping off two cylinders from a V8? If so, I had that in my '66 skylark.

It's the old 3.8L/ 225. The same design team that built the 215 Aluminum block V8 did the V6 IIRC and some of the tooling is the same. Being a 1969 boat, the motor would have been aquired from Kaiser who bought the rights and tooling to put them in Jeeps and other industrial applications in 1967/8

Bottom line is, marine parts are long gone for that motor
