Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

really sorry to hear, for you and your wife. and for the world.....sounds like grandma was part of what keeps it interesting. hope things happen for the best, whatever that may be at this point. when i hit the wall, i hope it comes in the form of something like a massive stroke where my consciousness just gets switched off in a bang.

out on the water away from most of humanity is a great place for healing and thinking......

Photos to follow in a couple of days.

Boat rides great...handles great... Motor is running decent.... More on that to come!

Can't trim it up much without porpusing a lot... Runs 38 mph trimmed almost all the way down.... Trim it up and it starts to porpus right away... Weird given the gas and me in the front...

Overall - fantastic!!!!!

Reports are starting to trickle in about a UFO skimming across the water somewhere near Ontario Canada.

One observer said, "It was bright and shinny just flying over the water. Another stated "I wouldn't be able to recognize who ever was driving, All I could really see was his big :D:D:D."

Congrats, look forward to seeing pics and vid.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Long overdue splash update.... but first...

I need to get this out of the way first... thanks guys for your thoughts and condolences... my wifes grandmother did pass on the morning of July 1st. 2 years ago I was diagnosed to the date, 2 years later she passes on the date and Northern Therapy was launched! Crazy how these things work! Anyway, we all decided it was fitting to launch something anew and did a looooooong tribute cruze chatting and laughing about her life, the lake and life in general!! So without any further adue............... the first of about a weeks worth of updates as most the pics and vids are on my father in laws camera and my wifes laptop up north!!! Ooops, I forgot my portable hdd!! Anyway here is the start of the story...

Crazy launch as the normal launch area was rutted up and partially bocked...

A very, very focused first mate... (notice how shallow it is... I am in ankle deep water!) ---- something else Starcraft boats are good in --- shallow water!
069.jpg

The whole crew and Admiral focused on NOT tearing the decals off the side of the boat --- even with the bumpers in place!!

Docking for the first time the new boat...

Resting peacefully in the evening...

There are soooooooooo many more pics to come! So hang tight!

Anyway... there you have it! It's official!

SPLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!![

Have a great one fellas!

Oh ya.... one last thing my Wife's mother commented about the boat saying "Everyone should experience a Starcraft!" ---- true... very true!

Sorry to hear about the loss. She is smiling down on the family and she was there in spirit.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Thanks guys!!!

Did I mention it was FANTASTIC!!! Ya... maybe I forgot that part!!! It really was a blast.

Also got the kids out for a fish yesterday morning!!! What a pleasure to be truly enjoying the fruits of one's labor!! It was a great time... and it floated!!!

This weekend it will get a new powerpack as the engine really was running rough intermittently. It hit 41 on gps --- but the engine was running rough... so I really did not push it again.

Also, the speedo hose split open --- truly comical speedo action --- it would take perhaps a minute or so for it to work and then record some crazy speed (reallly low...) then I noticed at the dock after stopping that there was a peeing noise... inside the boat!! Sure enough I could see and feel water right below the engine controls on the floor and then traced the water right to the back to another puddle! So I dried it up, took another quick run and stopped and sure enough another puddle!!! So, no worries, and easy fix.

Other than that, everything work great! Had a blast and the kids and family as well!

The boat really comes out of the hole very very flat --- which is terrific... no nose to the sky carp...

More pics and vid's next week... some really cool video of the her accelerating and carving....

Looking forward to this weekend!

Jim - You need to post a list of rules on the dash. #1 is "No peeing in the boat". :p I tell ya, nothing lasts anymore. Only 44 years old and the speedo tube cries "Uncle" 41 on GPS and out of tune. She's one fast tinny.

Excellent! What a beauty on the water, glad you all had such a good family time enjoying it. That's one nice looking lake too, must be great to be out on. Looking forward to more pics and the videos, fantastic job all around. How does the 90 idle?

Thanks LL... cottage country in Ontario has some truly stunning lakes. I'll post some pics later in the summer when we are on vacation up there out on Georgian bay and Lake Rosseau etc.... really nice area to cruise/fish.

The 90 idles great!! Surprisingly actually --- and it starts great. That's been the tough part in figuring out what the issue is. It has new coils, wires, stator and I did a little test --- when it ran rough at speed I choked it to see if it cleared up --- but it didn't it bogged. This tells me it is ignition vs fuel delivery issue. Given the condition of the powerpack wires to coils and that the PP looks original, I'm going to replace it and keep the old one in the boat. If the new PP ever goes... at least I have one to limp home on!

I thought that's why I put in the dek master??? !!!

Weirdly... it doesn't feel all that quick in that boat... when the motor is running better, I will take it for another little speed run and see how it does then. I don't expect much more than that... but it cruises silently at 25mph --- enough so that my wife and I can hold a conversation like we were in the car!! Quite quite really.
