Hey Guys!

Been on vacation for what feels like forever!!! Much catching up to do...!!! Thought I would give a quick update on the a summer of boating with the Jup.... motor is now running really quite good. Still will run a bit rough when the speed is between say 18 mph and 25 mph... but settles down after a bit. Otherwise, runs great!. Many boating adventures... fishing and cruising this summer!

A shot here of the Jup on Georgian Bay --- took an hour of running to get to an island that sells fish and chips! Had a great picnic with the wife and kids and a great day on the water. The boat handles the big 45+ foot crusier's wakes no problem at all!

Northern Therapy snuck into the photo... with a yittle (as my son says) flag at the stern!

Saw terrific looking old tinnie in the harbor!

Nice looking day for boating!

Hope everyone's summer has been safe and a blast!

Great photos, looks like a great place for boating. I like that idea of an hour's water trip to eat out! Glad you're having a good summer.

Thanks man! Yah... it's been a blast and weather pending will continue for a while still. Gonna try to keep the boat in the water till end of October. Last year we made it until the middle of November... but that was kind of an exceptionally warm winter to say the least!

I removed all the paint as well on my Holiday. Hardest and longest part of the project. Next time, I'm just going to scuff the old paint, prime over and paint. The old paint is so well bonded to the aluminum at factory that it will be stronger to bond new paint to old paint vs aluminum, not at the factory.

Hey Rich,

Ya... it was a pain then. The problem is that I was too impatient... leave the paint remover goop on for a good while and the paint will flake off. See my comments in the Jet thread... goes it to a lot more detail.

Take care,

J.

IM, It took me three days to get thru all the post. WOW, what a job you did. I am looking for a beat up
16' to make an "island" run about. Lots of salt water in her future. Your story and great work are an
inspiration to me. Thanks for taking the time to document NT transformation. JC

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

I thought that I would give a quick update on a couple of things for those interested in how things hold up...

After 2 seasons in the water continuously for at least 3 months, here is what I have found:

1. The polished hull is dulling a little... I polished the transom area this year quickly and it returned it to full shine. In the spring I will do the sides and the hull and seal it again. Overall it has been super easy to maintain and to clear the "guck" off of each fall --- takes about 15 minutes to clean the whole boat.
2. The wood still looks great.... no issues whatsoever. Even with 4 dogs and 2 kids getting in and out, it shows hardly any wear at all. 5 coats of spar varnish helps a lot given that the wood is fairly soft in nature.
3.Having no trailer in the water to tie the cover to (would be kinda silly to leave the boat attached to the trailer in the water... might impact performance a touch!), the little A frames I built with some 1/4" ply made a big difference and kept the water out of the boat all summer long.

Overall a great boat. Really enjoyed it.

Have a great one fella's!

Jim
