Thanks glen... The bildge has 3 wires... A + a - and an unknown. I am going to Google it tonight. It runs automatically when turned up side down and thus the flapper triggers the switch... Just need to tinker a bit. Good news it works.

One wire is ground, one to battery and the pump will work when the float rises, the other is hot and goes to a switch. You'll figure it out no problem.

Thanks MP --- ya, for the splash I'll leave it in auto mode... I'll run the extra wire up to a triple switch in mid July when I've got some more time to tinker.

Murphy took a day off.... got the trailer painted tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This means........ The boat can go on the trailer and the motor on the boat for an up coming splash..................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok... gotta get some sleep. Up at 5:00am tomorrow to get some quality boat time and then hit the basement reno for the day!!!

Oh, B2 --- did you send this heat and humidity here????? Us Canuks aren't equiped to handle 100+F temps --- much less for a few days at a time!!! Man... it's raining for a month in Saskatchewan and people are getting heat stroke in Ontario.... hmmmm what's up with that?

heat might be from down here. temps for ABQ this weekend are supposed to be almost equal to EL Paso, and normally they're 7-10 deg (amurikin degrees) cooler. humidity? what's that? per the Nat Weather Svc, it's currently 7% here..... actually been very tolerable at night with lows in the upper 60s.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

While waiting for the paint to dry on the trim and while I had some extra help around (my folks had dropped by!!).... something happened to the boat.....

It went a little more vertical,...................................................

And then............. something (finally!!! :) ) got added..............................

Just sneaking a peak.......
IMAG0416.jpg

Better view.... and notice how close the tip of the motor is to the ground!!!!!

All wrapped up before the rain storm...

So there you have it.... it's on the trailer. The trailer is done. The motor is on the boat!

More to do yet... and some adjustments... I have no rollers on the trailer --- but there are 8' of bunks to support it so I hope that'll do! The bottom of the keel at the front of the boat is about 1" from hitting the frame of the trailer!!! Super close... but it can't really move up or down so... to put it another way... it is super low in the trailer which is great for low water launching.

No issues at all walking the trailer under the boat... worked as usual like a charm! The boat slid along the bunks with ease... if not easier than with rollers wierdly!!!

So... back to the house reno... which is coming along nicely --- but got a slight delay with the boat switch out. Really... it needed to get done... I need the room in the garage!!!

Have a great evening fellas!!!

Carp, nearly splash ready! Looks great sitting on the trailer!

Good luck keeping your fingers out of the hammer's way working on the house.

Your head & your hands will be thinking about all the little details needing to be wrapped up pre-splash:rolleyes:

Looks great. If it was mine, I'd consider adding something like this http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...Roller+Bracket to the front where it comes in close contact with the trailer. .
--- Thanks Ez! Ya I saw one of those on Thursday and almost bought one... but alas it will be a vacation mini job. Boy is it tight thought!!! Gonna be a tricky one to get it to fit right!

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Ok... mini update here... obviously not much done... but I was able to sneak out in the early, early hours the last two days and guys guess who showed up....

Yup....

Murphy.

Ok... here's the photo....

IMAG0422.jpg

Yup. Once the motor is installed, ya can't get the steering cable into the motor housing. No dice. Sooooooo.... I pulled the motor. But I should have double checked one other thing....

IMAG0421-1.jpg

The cable length!!!!! Ugggggh!!! 4" to short!!! Funny thing is, I ordered and got a cable that is 1 foot longer than the original I pulled out!!!

See, way back I was simply going to replace the piece that goes through the transom that braces/holds the cable in place. No biggy. After chatting with a couple of boat mechanics, they strongly recommended against that with the 90.

Also, weirdly, even going with the brace, it would require some modification unless I liked going straight or turning right only! The cable piece that attaches to the motor is a bit longer than the original one and as such, won't allow the motor to turn left! You can kind of see it in the first photo --- that is where the cable would need to sit in order to turn fully left... but the brace piece would need to be almost all the way to the top right of the transom!

Anyway, long and short of it, I bought a 15' system this morning and it should be in mid week if all goes well. I will figure out how to get this steering system working on the Falcon --- or sell it.

So, there you have it. If anyone knows how to get the steering cable into the motor without having to pull the motor and tilt it to the side, that would be most helpful!!!

Oh ya, almost forgot, I moved the boat about 8" further forward so that there is only about 1 inch of the hull beyond the bunks... just didn't seem right hanging that far past.

Basement --- 80% done construction. 60% done putting everything back!! So good progress --- just long days --- just finished up now! But it is getting there and we are no longer sleeping in the living room and family room!

Have a great evening folks!

Is it possible to put the cable into the motor first then feed the other end of the cable through the hole in the splash-well and up to the front? Just a thought.

Actually that probably is a possibility, but I'm guessing that lifting the motor off might be a bit less trouble.

Hey Jim, you gotta watch your back with that Murphy guy, just when you think you have him paid of he stabs ya again. No way I have found to get the cable in without lifting the motor and turning it slightly, sorry. Good to hear you made some prgress on the basement.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

That sucks about the steering cable, see if you can cut the corners when routing the cable.

I got a good 3-4 inches by doing that with my jet.

Also might be able to move the steering box to the right more?

Jim, any chance you ran the cable under the side tray? If so you might get the 4 inches back by running under the gunnel above the tray. That would be the straightest shot from the steering box back to the splashwell. Tossing ideas.
