Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Yah, I think where the cross beams are sitting I should be able to mount a couple of brackets, carpet a pair of 2x's and mount. I think it should work out but I only gave it a quick look. Once that glasser makes it's final voyage I'll set the Jet on the rollers and eyeball for a while. Shoot, selling those brackets and rollers might just fund the paint job and bunks for that trailer, eh!:D

I can never find a deal like that,.............

I have been looking for a decent trailer for 2 years and every time I find one I think will work the seller is out of his mind,..........

If I decide to keep the 16 footer I think I'll end up buying a new trailer as all the used ones I see are almost the same money,...

OK, so this 4Winns ended up to be a pretty interesting deal...

I originally put it up on clist as a freebe haul away. Giving away free stuff is sometimes more hassle than selling for actual money. Some of you know exactly what I mean.

So, I went back and changed it to $50 haul away or $100 if I haul it and drop it off.

I had a fella come by and take a look at it. He asked if he could leave me a deposit for the trailer, haul it home, and bring it back (he was a 2 hour drive round trip). I said sure! Hand over $650 and I'll give him $600 back when he returns the trailer. He didn't like that idea.

So then he said he'd give me $100 in cash for just the windshield. He had an aluminum Tracker fishing boat that needed one.

I chewed on it for a minute and said sure!:D

He came back yesterday and...

Interesting. He wanted the port side console for his boat too. So I lent him some tools and...

Okee dokee.

Hey, happy buyer, happy seller!

After that we yanked the hull off the trailer. I had Ryan take a run at the cable puller, he was pumped...

That hull was super HEAVY! I believe it has been sitting out for at least 2 years. Full of frozen water and snow.

And off...

I think this trailer will be great for the Jet:D

That was a nice windshield. That guy got a deal and so did you. I assume you'll be cutting the rest of it up now.

There was a guy in the general boating section looking for a ladder just like that one.

Yah guys, this hull will go the way of Thumper the Baja after I swipe whatever gear I can. Prolly a nice fuel tank in there maybe.

Well, there is still plenty of winter here in the middle of Michigan. But, the sun was out today which was nice.

I went to work chopping up this 4Winns..

It's no wonder this thing was so stinking heavy. There was about a foot of water in the bilge, frozen solid...

I scored some stuff out of that hull...
Cleats, bow light, seat pedestals, beefy bow/stern eyes (those may end up on the Jet), fire extinguisher, air horn, TeleFlex rack and cable (I wonder if I can get that to work for the Johnson), some aluminum, 2 life jackets, and a whole fist full of ss screws. I have yet to pull the fuel tank and hoses as the tank is sub deck.

Cool!:D

If the length is correct, the steering cable should work for your Johnson.

I always love a good glasser salvage mission. I will get one in this spring hopefully since I could use some extra cleats and what not.

Nice work, in a week or two she should be thawed out.:D

Yah, I'm only seeing a couple of 50 degree days this month on the forcast. Ah well, we'll get there neighbor!:)

Looks like a bigle pump and switch in the frozen depths too!

Yah, ya saw that too eh. I'd need to trade in my screwdriver for a blowtorch to get that out:rolleyes:

My guess is the length will be close, too long if anything. I'll snap a photo and show ya what I tore out so you guys can have a look. Saving money on that would be cool!:D

The sun was out yesterday and man was it nice!

I got to cutting up the 4Winns...

I scored the rubrail which was great! I think I may use it as an inner rubrail on the Jet. I think it just may work!

I also pulled the Jet off the old trailer and cranked her onto the new one...

This trailer will be really great! But, the rollers have to go. She sits way too high for me. You can see up there in that photo I can get her nice and low, right in between the fenders, with a nice set of bunks.:)

Yeah those rollers do make it too high. However, that thing is totally usable as-is if you don't feel like starting that project for a while. Looks like a GREAT trailer for the Jet.

Yup, sure do agree. The roller setup is a realy nice way to go, just not quite right for the Jet here. Man, I do love this trailer! It's got three huge steps on each side, plus the fender to step on - extra convenient:)

It's worth every penny of the $100 that I have spent on it - so far;):D:cool:

The sun was out, man was it nice! Still about 40 degrees, but I'll take it!

So I took advantage of it and went hackin away at the 4Winns.

I got the bilge pump and float switch out of the block of ice and found this below deck...

Very nice 20 gallon aluminum fuel tank:)

I also sold the old Jet trailer too, sweet:):)

Man I bet that tank would have fit nicely in the bilge of my SS.

Yah, it's only 5" tall which is probably right about what your stringer height is I bet.

I spilled a little fuel in the belly of that 4Winns when I pulled it out. I was half tempted to dump the rest in, light a match and have a glass boat roast:eek:

Restraint got the better of me and I acted my age:rolleyes:

Nice score, I agree that is a nice slim tank. Not too late to fit it under the Islander deck is it? :D
