You got "THE LOOK"....That's serious too. OK Just work faster and smarter. What are you getting, say 5 hours sleep per night, well lets cut that down to 3-4. You spend time running, Ahem,,,That's out for now. Got vacation time coming? Use it!!!! I know your kids are young but put them to work, its good for them.

See we're all here for ya pal and everything will be just fine!

BTW Your resto is looking great and its exciting for all of us to see you so close!!! Hang in there.

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

How are you supposed to cook up tasty walleye in the new kitchen if the boat isn't done to catch the fish?

I say the ONLY compromise is to have them both completed at the same exact time.:)

This may require more work/less sleep(as mentioned) on your end buddy:D

Jas, the boat is really looking good. This thread is serving as an encyclopedia for me. I just finished a 15 foot tri-hull glasser rebuild earlier this summer but as soon as I find my 18 foot Starcraft "junker" a 'for sale' sign is going on the first boat! After seeing your rebuild I'd even buy a runabout and try converting it to bow rider, which is my preferred layout.

Oh man, less sleep? Uh, I am embarrassed to say what time of day I am brewing up my morning coffee. It's not right:redface: But I'll see what I can do:)

Yah Mike, I'm going to need to put some serious effort into a dual finish. We'll see if I can pull it off.

Yesssss!!!! Selling a glasser for a real boat:D

Hey, welcome to iboats Abe and thanks for swinging through:)

Keep looking for that 18' Starcraft Super Sport buddy, they are out there and will save you a whole lot of work vs. a conversion.

Cheers!

Jas, You can run but you can't hide from the mob. I've been married 35 years and sometimes!!??!!, but a happy wife makes for a happy wife. Now don't everybody climb on me for this but I got an email the other day that sat if the wife is coming out to the mancave to see when I'm coming in the house , then I must have made the chain to long in the kitchen. Now I've done it LOL.

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

OK, had a pretty big morning today!

Mounted the prop to the Minn Kota, tarped the hull, sanded the deck with 80, cleaned, sanded the deck with 120, cleaned and heated up the garage to bake temps. Then I laid down the final coat of epoxy on the deck, "salting" in the sand as I went along for texture/traction...

Boy am I glad that chapter is behind me! I kinda/sorta feel like that is the last of the "grunt" type work on this project:)

I even got a run in this morning too. Sorry Michael I can't give that up. You'd totally agree if you saw the way I eat buddy:eek:

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

OK, so during my run this a.m. I was doing some serious thinking about my seating set up and I have a change in plans. You guys may not care so much but here is whats up...

I know you fellas appreciate my artwork so...

I was planning console (black), with a bench (blue) right in front of that along with some sort of helm seat (green)...
P1070190-1.jpg

Well, I've nixed that plan all together. As I was standing there staring at the Jet I was envisioning this set up and really felt like that small space in between the bench and the casting deck would be awkward. Just too little space you know. I was thinking about moving from the midships area to the casting deck and thinking that it would just be kind of a pain you know. I think it would make the boat feel quite cramped too.

So, I've decided to scrap the bench entirely and push the console just a bit further towards the bow...
P1070190-2.jpg

Much more open feel and a lot easier to move straight from the helm up to the casting deck. I like that a lot better:)

OK, so by taking that away I've lost some storage there. To remedy, the helm seat will be a fixed box sort of a deal, kinda like this Mariner, just not quite so wide...

At the stern I was originally planning a flip up or flip down bench. Now I am just going with a fixed bench with storage under neath (lift up lid)...
P1070191-1.jpg

It'll be high enough to sit comfortably but low enough to stand up on for a rear casting deck. And, I've gained my storage back that I lost with the bow bench being gone.

I did lose some seating but to be honest, I'll never have more than two other full grown guys on this rig so it's not like I need seating anyway. There is plenty of room at that stern bench too. If I have particularly big boned guys on board I can have one of them sit on the bow casting deck to even out the weight (about like that Mariner photo up there too).

Going this route I see a couple of big advantages. A much more open deck overall and a whole lot less work involved with the build, like it!

I like the revised layout Jas, as you say, less seating but more deck space to move around. Now splash her! :p

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

I just got back from the lake with my dad and the nicest fishing boat I saw there was nothing but casting decks with tall pedestals and the helm and passenger seat down low. The rest was wide opening for wrestlin' matches. I don't mind standing a bit lower than their raised platforms were, but I liked the lack of anything to trip over while focusing on the catch.
I like your ideas on the new seating arrangement as well.
Hope you make your now publicly posted deadlines. :D
J/K, I'm sure they'd never really come for you... right? right?

These guys are brutal eh. I for one am man enough to admit my wife has a lot of say in when I work on my fleet. I've got no complaints, I get enough time to horse around. My wife's most famous quote "This is not a day for working on boats". I had to agree with her that day. I always say I can do anything I want in my house. Sometimes the price is too great to pay though.

Boat looks nifty. I hope you splash it soon. Oh yea, if the mob comes for you I'll join in. Don't look so surprised if the tables were turned you'd rat me out too. Oh wait between scouts, karate and speech, homework and Lisa's home list I can't fit you in. I will mange to go fishing in the Sea Scamp Saturday, provided those 25 mph winds don't show up.

ooh Inge just went yard, 3-3 tie game. Gotta go. They better win, Go Tigers.

Morning progress!

Clean, etch, prime, three top coats for the sides, one coat on the deck, tarps pulled off...

Looks like a lot of gray right now but once I get some wood tones and a white console it should balance out nicely.

Boy was I happy to see that bilge looking good this morning...
P1070197.jpg

I'll lay down two more coats of paint on the deck over the next couple of days.

Cool:)
