I got my bow light all wired up. Looks good to me.

Also when installing the piece of trim above the dash I realized I had to cut my steering bezel quite a bit in order to make it fit, The whole rotary steering system has been quite a process to fit in this tiny dash.

Looks great man! Paint... Light... Even the bezel trimage! Couple steps closer to splash time!

Keep up the great work!

Lights, Camera, Action! The bezel finagaling looks real good. Narrow dashes make for interesting compromises.

Re: 1967 Starcraft 15' Jet Star Restoration

Well the day has finally come. SPLASH!

I'm not 100% finished, but I just couldn't wait.
After firing up the motor that had been sitting for over 6 years and realizing it didn't run quite right i decided to do a carb clean and this is what i found

Pretty disgusting, It ran a whole lot better after that mess was cleaned up, but it still has trouble idling, which made for a real pain getting back on the trailer

The water felt like it was about 35 degrees and my wet feet didn't completely defrost until about an hour after getting home.

Still to do:

- Install trailer bunk guides I ordered tonight after realizing my trailer is horrible for centering the boat. Already got a rice nick in the paint on the very bottom from hitting a piece of metal on the trailer.
- Go through motor again make it idle, change lower end fluid, wash and wax
- Install swim platform (ordered tonight)
- Get some professional photos taken
- Post video with speed test via gps
- Make some sort of anchor mount.

What does everyone else do with their anchor?

Congratulations! That paint beams even when it's overcast...wait until you get some sun!

man, that carb has seen better days; I'm amazed that it ran at all. you may want to check the fuel pump & lines while you're in there.

Yuck on the carb, Yippee on the splash. :whoo: You nicked that paint job - Bad Boy. Have you checked out the fuel pump. It might as crusty as the carb. And the tank, too.

Nice splash, ugly carb. I'd look at replacing all the lines, check tank, pump and rebuild carb.

Its beautifull. You should be proud of that one. You will be the center of attention at the ramps. Oh have fun with the trailer.

Congratulations, looks great! Nic job all around, it will really be a head turner. That carb is pretty nasty, kinda surprising it even ran. And now you don't even have to worry about that first scratch, you took care of that the first time out & you can just enjoy now. :)

I just have my anchor up in the bow on a piece of left over bunk carpet; I don't really use it, so it doesn't need to be where I can just throw it overboard.

Looking forward to some videos...

GREAT LOOKING BOAT!

"What does everyone else do with their anchor"
I have been leaving mine in the water and finding a used one at garage sales.....1 lost when the prop cut the line and two to poor knot tying.

Really nice job on the restore, glad to see a splash, we are still so far from that here weather wise.

Re: 1967 Starcraft 15' Jet Star Restoration

Thanks guys.

Its already got new fuel lines and a new gas tank, but I will definitely check out the fuel pump this week.

Another small problem I have run into is now that I have the motor mounted my trailer wants to tip up, it takes roughly 15-20 lbs to keep it down. I don't like this because when i'm driving it is pulling up on the hitch and i feel like its gonna fall off.

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before. I was thinking about moving my axle back a little bit, because my trailer is extruded aluminum and it looks like its just 4 bolts that i have to loosen up, hopefully this will help.

You need more tongue weight. Can you move the winch post forward and pull the boat on the trailer a little more? Easiest thing to do as long as the stern is still supported. Move the axle back only if you have too. My couple of pennies.

Looks awesome! Congrats on the splash! Really nice job...

My two cents is that I would +1 with what GA says... winch post would be my first choice if the stern is still properly supported.

Yeah, I'll have to hook it up to my truck and see how much further forward i can pull it without creating any problems.

Re: 1967 Starcraft 15' Jet Star Restoration

Trailer tongue weight should be 7 - 10% of the total boat, motor and trailer weight. If not they tend to sway a lot going down the road.

lol, yeah you had mentioned that before. Any pics of it? I watched an episode of american chopper before I did the paint job on my boat where they did a baby blue metal flake paint job on a chopper and used lace to create a pattern in the paint, looked a little to frilly for my liking though.
