Re: 1965 Starcraft Holiday

Any suggestions to fill in these holes where the old trolling motor mount was?

I'd put an aluminum patch over those. That's too many in one area for filling with something.

Haha, With that said i found a good deal on a half pound of these rods. I'm gonna give it a shot and if it don't work, a big aluminum patch with 5200 it is.

Oh man, I just ordered them. Thanks a lot for the offer. I got 10 sticks(1/2#) for $15.00 so if it don't work like it's suppose to I'm not out much and I'll call it a lesson learned.

Bwana Don used them on Zachs Sea Scamp. He said the trick was using Mapp gas not plain propane. Need the higher temps. He's about the only one I can recall that it worked for. Well there is one more - The guy at the boat show that makes it look so easy and sells tons of the stuff.

One side stripped! Other side soaking. Time to get busy on the rivets.

How many rattle cans of zinc primer do you think it will take to cover the hull and topside? Skygeek.com has a case of 12 for $75.00 with shipping. Thats about 6.25 a can. I'm eventually going to get to the trailer also if i don't use all of them

You only need a light dusting of the stuff I believe so 12 would be way overkill. I'm thinking more like 4-5 (the more experienced like dozer can correct me if I'm wrong).

Hey 65, ya got a good start on her. About those rods...check youtube. There's a demo that you might find interisting. Too much heat seems to be the problem, not too little heat.

Re: 1965 Starcraft Holiday

Got the transom cut and laminated today. I am going to get it dry fit and the holes drilled this week so i can epoxy up the rest. I tried those welding rods and they are worthless, on to plan B. I got the hull nearly completely clean of paint. So now i can start sealing up the inside and i would like to hit most of the rivets on the outside with some g-flex. So I see no reason why it shouldn't be bone dry for years to come. O.K let the fun resume. I will post some pics soon

Slowly but surely getting things done. Transom is coated and ready to go, but I keep finding new things to fix.
