I would buy the most modern motor you can afford. If that means waiting and watching, until you get seats mounted, not having an OB, isnt holding you up.

I don't know if it's comparable, but our 81 16SS is rated for 90hp. I think 100-115 wouldn't be horrible with my new transom and all my repairs completed. I just don't know if that's really comparing apples to apples with your Lone Star.:noidea:

Well adding the 3 cyl johnnyrudes sure opens up some more options and thinking it thru really don't need a 40mph boat and used to have a lot of fun in Dad's 17' Seaswirl glasser with a 60 on it...

jb - want to have a motor on it as soon as I can - the last thing I will do is spend 30 minutes bolting seats back in then hit the water. More travel coming this month running out of time for the 4th and then little sister in country.

After this call going to get some 4x4's for the bunks and then pull the boat off in the front yard. I'll have AC take pictures. You are welcome in advance.....

That motor on the blue LS could be either a 75 or a 90hp Evinrude Starflite.

Well, if she collects on the insurance, or you end up divoriced, i would suggest you couldnt 'afford' it ;)

I quick and dirtied my tinny (16*5)*2)-90 = 70HP. It's rated for 75 HP max. So i guess the calculation is close because the stern is slightly over 5' and it says to raise the max by 5 or 75HP.

well crap I did the math wrong I upped the factor to next 5 not the HP so this should be the same as yours. Mostly a weight issue for me, HP I could handle. Looks to be about 100 lbs difference.

Reboot in progress...

or... Would having the foam in it now make any difference?

Depending on the running condition of the 90 Johnson, $1200 FIRM, still isnt bad if you can flip the boat/trailer. If you can flip it for half the cost, DEAL :)

ok lunch break and hour break in between calls.

good news; I get $18 back when I take the 4x4's back to HD. The 2x4's there were in good shape the lags used were just not galvanized so rusted and a bit of wood rot at the point of entry, plus it appears they did not put all of them in allowing the bunk to slide over (and bend) brackets. They were also way too long so I simply put the fronts where they should be to get into new wood and put new (galvanized) lags in.

quit work on the boat early and hung out...

Had a buddy stop by who runs a body shop and think I'm going to have him do some paint work. Blast off all the red (except the hull) and replace with the original baby blue.so won't be much updating for a bit plus I'm in SOCAl next week pretty brutal travel week.

Although if I do find a motor i'll post up.

75 hp. Previous owner got it from her dad who bought it new in 1983. Original paint on the motor, a bit rubbed off the top from the cover rubbing on it. Has TnT. Fired right up when cold but he told me it probably needs the carbs done doesn't like to start when hot. Had lower unit rebuilt last year. Plus as an afterthought bonus the motor color will match the original paint color.

Only thing I didn't think of was the cables for the controls. They may not be long enough the Lonestar steering wheel is about 5' farther up. Can I get the wire harness? I'm sure cables are still avail but not sure about the rest. My first time doing this...

$1200 hope to sell boat and trailer for $500 and I had $1700 in budget so looking good there, plus I'm swapping the tires (and taking the spare) so a few more hundred back to the budget.

Budget to date. I'm doing well.

Forgot to say the Rude looks good! Hope the warm start problem is an easy, cheap fix. Gotta stay under budget. :D
