Trying to ... Right when I think I am ready to start the bottom I realize other stuff I should do first ..

So I re-installed the 1962 penny I found .. Heads up .. Just thought it was kinda cool . You can see how I have bedded in both the frame work and the plywood surfaces . Nailed with those ring shank silicone bronze nails . So the theory is if I hit a nail with a screw fastening the planks . It should just chew through and shear next to the nail ..

I ran out of ring shank nails so I got my son to help install the intermediate ribs on the port side that was fully base layered and sealed .. Afterwards I dug out the old planks and layed them out to get ready to start cutting new ones .

I have 5/4 boards I need to split in half . I’m gunna try to split with my table saw slowly setting the depth and spinning the boards . If that don’t work I have found someone locally with a resaw bandsaw. We will see how that goes .

Yeah I don’t know anyone close by . I did find a guy on FB that has one about a little over an hour from here .. I think most regular type band saws can only cut a 6” depth .
I can do that with my table saw with 4 passes . That’s what I’m starting with atm .

So any plank wider than 7” I have found that a long blade on a sawzall works to finish the cut halfway decently .. The planet takes care of the rest . Taking them down to a mosquito wing less than half inch . The planks that came off are 3/8” thick . I figure this would give me some sanding/faring wiggle room .

Sawzall..the ultimate plumbers tool! Especially the newer mini sawsaws

I think it's a beautiful wood, almost a shame to paint it! Don't know much about it, is it heavy? I did read that it's quite a bit harder than the mahogany.

It is nice looking stuff . Pretty comparable to Philippine mahogany. May be a tad harder and heavier. Good luck finding PM .. The Sapele is supposedly farm grown I think .

Yeah , I put new blades in my planer and then hit a staple I didn’t see in the end of a plank .
Luckily it just messed up one blade . I flipped the blade over and it doing fine now ..

So I think this should work ..
sacrificial metal gas can ,3/4” galv treaded nipple , 3/4” heater hose and hose clamp . Portable propane burner . I have bags on the way that I can cut to length .

So the plan in my head is to cut the planks from old plank templates. Start fitting both sides at the same time with bookend planks .
Get the close to in the right spot and secure the straight /not curved end of the plank . Might just use a heavy weight or clamp somehow .
Slip the bag over the bow section , start steaming it until it’s loose enough ti bend into shape . Leave the bag cooking and in place the fasten it down . Hopefully once cool it will hold close to the right shape . Then fine tune it with a plane .
Get them all cut and in place . Then number in order and remove. Tracing the edges into the base layer as I go .. That way I can stop the 5200 in the right spot as to not get my elbows covered in a layer of goo ..
