Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Hey Arch. I just got off the phone with the gut at my boat place. The lower unit got there yesterday. I'm gonna head down there after school Friday and we are going to install it then. Maybe we'll get her out on the water again on Monday!

Hey mick,

Thanks for your 2Cents and good luck with your lower end work. I'm sure it will all go well. You are lucky to have a mek a nek that is willing to share his knowledge. Be a sponge and learn a lot so you can share with the rest of us. Been workin all day on my shed and the boat.

I'm just sayin...

Woody you've been around on here long enough to know your way around the block! You'll do great on the flamingo!

Unfortunately though, while I was at the boat place it turns out the lower unit that I got was not correct!!! It was a short shaft when I needed a long shaft for mine. I don't know where the communication break down was but what's done is done.

What was supposed to be a quick swap turned out to be a 3 hour project and I gotta go back tomorrow. We had to swap the long shaft and shifter, and this and that... instead of just swapping the whole lower unit. Tomorrow we will finish up and attach it to the motor.

I did learn alot while I was there getting my hands dirty. Hopefully when I get it in the water on Monday the clutch dog issue will be corrected with this other unit. I guess we will see:rolleyes:

Sorry to hear about your troubles but at least it sounds like you were able to make it work. That's what counts. I'm sure that clutch dog will solve your issues. Or is it the Clutch cat, I get confused some times.....

Hey Mick,
That really stinks about the lower unit but it sounds like you are working it out. Good luck and I'll be watching for the update.
Take care
Bob

Hey mick were your on beltzville lake by preachers camp? We past a boat that looked just like yours. You were heading to the main part of the lake. We were in the big bue/white searay cabin cruiser

Hope you got out today and everything worked!

This is a long shot but are you off school on Columbus day? As I said I have like no vacation but as a quasi-gov't worker I'm off that day. Maybe we could go for a ride.

Lime- That was me, the wife, and kids! Flag me down the next time. I think I remember your boat.

The lower unit work great- no more thumping!!!

I gotta figure out the throttle cables though! In the beginning of the trip everything was running smooth at low idle. Then at the end, at low idle which is alot of the lake, it kept choking out and stalling. Then I said the hell with it and used the trolling motor to get us back to the dock:confused:

What do you think--Carbs??

She did run great in the beginning when I stretched her out- got up to 28-29mph which was a first! Would the newer lower unit cause that??

EZ- Kids have off from school on Columbus day but teachers have in-service:mad:

I don't know much about motors but the poor idling could be your low compression issue rearing it's ugly head. Not sure though.

You need to fine-tune your carb settings on the lake. Sounds like you have the high-speed dialed in...may need to adjust the low-speed at no-wake and idle speeds.
