Remember to put the gear shifter into the right gear position. Before separating the 2 sections of the shift rod.

The members here are super and can help you with any problem on that great old motor. Good luck!
Thanks! I'd be sunk without their help. I tried researching, but it's so old there's not a lot on them other than in the manual. Now I think I'm almost done. I can't wait to get it on the water!

I found another problem. I was looking at the end of the water tube, which came out when I took the thing apart, and noticed it looks broken. So I looked in the manual, and it looks like it wasn't supposed to come out at all? From what I gather it is supposed to be held in by a gland nut. I think someone took it apart forcibly and broke the tube, then just stuck it back into the hole when they put it back together. It wasn't me, because there was carbon buildup from the exhaust on the tip where it was broken.

Also, the roller bearing above the thrust bearing is stuck. It's not rusted, and it looks fine, so I don't know why. I'm trying to find out in the manual how to get it out.

I got the bearing fixed! I spent two hours with my finger in the hole exercising it. I used PB Blaster, and I finally got it to move a little bit, and then some more, and then once it was moving good I moved it back and forth until it was 100% smooth.

Next time, use marvel mystery oil or a very light hydraulic oil (gear or steering) Because now you have to get rid of the pc blaster in that bearing. Any way you should pour a little bit of gear oil to flush the bearing and remove the pc blaster.
I keep on forgetting to write it down, but the irregular rpm stuff should solve itself once all the fuel supply hoses are replaced and the tank is fixed

Thanks for the tip! I will make sure to remove all of the pb blaster. It'd sure be nice if new hoses and fixing the tank fixed the running issue. Fingers crossed!
