35hp @4500 rpm
WOT Range 4000-5000 rpm
21:12 Gear Ratio
Point Gap 0.020"
Plug Gap 0:030"
Spark Plug. J6J was the Specified Plug, but as to what has Superseded that Number I don't know

Being that is almost 70 yrs old, what condition were the Ignition Coils?

Edit: I actually have the Owners Manual for that Engine.

The primer button on a 2 hose tank does NOT build up pressure in the tank.
I am aware of that, but if I don't keep pumping gas into the bowl it'll die before it builds up enough pressure to pump by itself.

Thank you so much! That's all the info I couldn't find. I haven't even checked the coils, I just wanted to see if I could get it running and maybe it wouldn't need anything but carb work. But seeing it does the flywheel's coming off today.

Crankcase compression should build up in a matter of seconds in the tank.-----Perhaps time for a rebuild kit for the tank.

On a side note.
When you decarb the engine , make sure that the wind will move the smoke away from houses and stuff like that. It produces a wicked mean black smoke. Last time I did it, I had the cops over in my backyard because they thought I had a fire in my yard, which, by the way, proved that the engine really needed it. If it is your intention to paint the cowling you should know that the color that was used is called "Holiday Bronze". The best way to get the proper color is taking your engine to one of those places where they take a picture of the color, stick it in their computer and perfectly reproduce it. Sikkens paints usually have the best results.
Thanks for the heads up! With the way the wind blows you saved me from some explaining to dad. (Our house is old and doesn't hold out smoke or anything else very well.) My secret plan is to restore it, the only hold up would be cost of paint and other materials.

It is. The o-rings are cracked and leak a little. I'm waiting on the kit to get here. It works for now.

When You do the Compression Test, unless you are using the Electric Starter, you will have to disable the Compression Relief Mechanism

If you mean Generic Brands of Marine Gear Oil, you should be Okay. However I wouldn't recommend Auto Gear Oil.

Sooo... I took the drain plug out... and out came a lot of stuff that looks, smells, and acts like water. So I took the the very lower part of the gear case of and all the gears apart and everything looks really great. No rust, scratching or scoring. I found the seal kit. I also checked the compression. 115-120 psi on both cylinders. Is that within spec?

Also, this engine has the lower unit extension that dad would like off. What parts would I need to change out to do that?

That is fairly simple. You would shorten it from 28 to 23 inches.
You can shorten the water tube and the shift rod. That much is simple.
The more complicated one would be the drive shaft. You will have to look for a short shaft drive shaft. The 57,58,59 and 60 all use the same shaft although you will see them as different part numbers. As an alternative you can go to a tool and die maker who should be able to make one for you. These 5 inch extension pieces are much sought after, don't throw it out. The 40 horse power driveshafts did have some problems, so although they seem the same, they seem not to have the same quality.

Dad picked up some water cooled two stroke oil yesterday. He got like a gallon, so we should be set for life.

I'll see if I can pick up a short shaft. Also I was thinking, maybe I can find someone who want to trade their short shaft parts for my long shaft ones.
