Re: 1957 evinrude 35hp problems running

I was looking at the cut out switch. Dont think it was stock. That seems like a easy fix. the tiller? best guess, extension.

What makes you think a Lark with a BigTwin hood? Just wondering the difference.

Engine block on the Lark is gray. Cut-out switch looks like the right one, but may not be working since the PO disconnected it.

Check the model number on the plate on the front of the motor...it should read 25532 if it's a Lark.....minus the proper hood.

Check out the links in my signature for info on the '57 Lark I'm restoring.

What's the compression numbers?

You need to borrow or buy a compression tester...some auto stores rent/loan them. They're a good tool to own for about $25. Basically you remove both spark plugs, ground both spark plug wires, screw in the tester in one of the spark plug holes, then crank over the motor. Read the gauge then repeat the procedure with the other plug hole.

Lark is mostly gray with a charcoal and white hood with lots of chrome. The BIgtwin is mostly blue with a blue and white hood. Basically the Lark is the "Cadillac" of the line-up.

Not mine. Hopefully I will have some numbers tomorrow. You wouldn't happen to be in the tn, ky area would you?

No where near...sorry!

If you are interested in repainting, you may want to make it a big twin since you already have the hood. I really like the polychromatic blue of the Bigtwin. It might be really difficult to find a Lark hood in good shape...if you're into factory restoration. Basically the two are identical except chrome and color...and that homemade tiller.

It fits several models... It's not a hard part to find at all. Any OMC dealer will have one. Or most aftermarket places. iBoats sells em here online.

Doesn't look too bad. The compression relief has been removed. Interesting place for the solenoid but it looks good. Do you have pics of the fuel pump side?

Oops. I thought I had read the entire thread as it was posted but I missed the earlier pics. The fuel conversion looks good. Can you not mount the hose and connector in the original position so that the hose is not hanging out the side?

I will, just trying to get it going. Just order the impeller today. Is there something miss up front of the carburetor? working on getting the manual. I am not sure about the compression relief.

Thank you. This is my first, so it may take a while with a lot of questions.
