Well at least the sand fleas are asleep with these temps....try to push on Sam. I know it's tough with the cold down there.

Good morning guys ! Hope everyone has recovered from Thanksgiving stuffing by now ...
Boat work continues.. I took some time this morning to set all the upper deck factory finish nails a little deeper ..Blew them out with the compressor and filled them and any other cracks or holes I could find ..
Going to use this scraper blade and some 80 grit to clean up the joints between the planks .
There was never any caulking in the joints so I have no plans to add any ... There is no sub layer under the finish planks so I guess the built up varnish will seal the joints for the most part ..

Also need your opinions on the splash rail at the bow eye .. Incredibly this is the worst of the buggery on the rails ..
What do you guys think ? Take the screws out reform somewhat with filler sand and redrill ?
Or maybe make sure screws are set good first then do the shaping/filling ..

I would be inclined to set the screws good then fill. Sure is looking gorgeous!

Sam,
Have you tried removing any screws first to see if the rail pulls off or out of line? I think I would try that to see if the rail keeps shape. If so epoxy/wet everything out then reshape, then set new screws in a pb. That area looks a little testy for sure. :)

Yeah I guess conventional thinking the joints would be caulked .. But , it wasn’t caulked from the factory and these small width planks have a bit of a crown to them ... So idk ....Thinking I will skip the caulk .. That would happen after the varnish anyway I think ..

Hey Sam, that is a hard place to put multiple plugs, any wagemakers have a chrome cap over that?

It does have a metal cap but does not cover the splash rail ..
I set the screws then filled it all in and reshaped ..
Not real sure what to do with it now ..

Yeah ,not real pretty ... Iwill be bleaching the rail so the wood will be a good bit lighter ..
Any suggestions on making it blend in better ?

It doesn’t look like it but I bleached the rub rails and the cockpit trim . Tomorrow it will look bleached like the starboard side front cockpit trim . 0C5B0B90-3447-4FDE-A2CB-4421C8B1F2CB.jpeg
