Thanks for stopping bye Decker!
All is good here . Hope you are doing well ! I haven’t been over on the S.C. section in a while I need to go catch up on your project .. Slow moving on this one .. Seems I spend most my time trying to make decisions on this and that ..

Thanks Zool ! I’m sure everyone wishes there projects would move along faster than they actually do ...
So I decided to to lay some more primer down .. Just finished up 2 more coats ... Sand it out tomorrow so hopefully spray the white this weekend .. Really wish I could keep the ac running while spraying .. Heats up in there real quick . Been using filter media over the ac filter and that works really well keeping dust out of the unit but I don’t think it would catch all the paint fumes and it might explode or something if I did .
Color this weekend though Woo Hooo !!! :joyous:

An explosion would probably ruin your weekend.....and just think of all the OSHA people running around in circles :D Hope you get the color on!

Arch I would have so many OSHA violations they would just have to haul me off .. I could never pay all the fines ..
Couple coats of white on today after a bit of clean up .. Looks ok but I did have a good bit of OP ... I think I will wet sand and maybe try a smaller tip . I was using a 1.5 .. The paint instructions said to set gun at the gun at 40/50 psi .. Seems kind of high . I could only get around 25/28 at the gun using the thumb gauge that I have .. Really not sure if the devibliss gun I have can take that much pressure . Anywho here are some pics .

DSC02096 (800x600).jpg I think the humidity may have played a roll also .

Hey Sam, not sure what DeVilbiss you have, but 40-50 isn't that much pressure. I usually shoot things around 35 to 45. Metalics sometimes higher to fog them in. It should lay down better at the higher PSI depending on what you are shooting, viscosity, and volume you are putting down. If you are shooting Rusto, Wood will have a "engineered formula"......its almost football season so I have to start poking and prodding him!

The white looks nice!

It’s the 3 part single stage urethane Delfleet . Not sure why I can’t get the pressure over 28 through the gauge ..
I guess the little brass ones fro hf aren’t rated that high Idk . Maybe I could remove the adjustment regulator and adjust at the compressor if I could rig just the gauge at the gun .. Or find a better regulator ..

Woody I didn’t use any thinner and it’s funny I had thought one of the componates was a reducer but it’s not . Paint /hardener/Activator . Said you can thin up to 10% IIRC . Data listed there thinner but I don’t have that here .
What can you thin polyurethane with ?
Mickey had the same problem and I had suggested to use the reducer . Guess I had forgotten but didn’t use any when I shot the manatee and didn’t have as bad a problem .
‘One other thought ....
‘Maybe I’m seeing fisheyes instead of OP .. Look at the close up and tell me what you think . I had wiped it down just before I shot it with a damp cloth to get any remaining dust off .. It looked dry but maybe with the humidity there was just enough moisture to cause problems idk just a thought ...
Gunna take a closer look this morning and go from there ..

Sam I bet the problem is the on the gun regulator. I really prefer those since you can adjust the pressure right at the gun. I doubt you will need to thin that much at all. They probably have reducer / thinner specifically for it.

They do have a reducer . Depending on the temp it has 15/40 % acetone and the rest chlorasomthingor other . Lol
I could probably just put a splash of acetone and not hurt anything I’m thinking ..

Correction , HVLP 8-10 PSI at the cap
Conventional 50-60 at the gun .
How do you measure at the cap and or translate that at the gun for hvlp ?

You need a reducer, especially at those outside temps....its just drying before it can flow out on the surface. PPG uses temp specific reducers, but I suppose you can use acetone in a pinch.

Pressure at the cap is measured with a gauge at the gun handle of a properly set up gun.....next to those disposable water separator

It looks good from here tho, maybe just let the water at high speeds cut and buff it for u :D
