Brad one thing I have learned over the years is that if it sounds to good to be true it most likely is. I havent tried the HTS2000 but I have tried the Alumaweld stuff and it wsnt even worth anything as scrap :D.

Ok, Ok, Ok, I've been depressed a little today. the boats fine, but my truck shut down on the way home. I had a major oil leak from my high pressure oil pump for the injectors. Its gonna cost me, and i'll be shut down on the boat project for a while.

THE GREAT THING is that the starcraft starchief i bought today can have the engine bolted on with controls hooked up and we're good to go. I'll have to take out the floor and some other unnecessaries as i restore. The hull is in great shape with only few minor areas to work over. :D

I'm not crazy about the color scheme or the huge green wooden boxes built in, but i'm gonna try her out just like she is.....

Oh yeah, I'm quickly becoming a junky. He has a 15' JetstreamV that i'm very interested in. What do you think she's worth. It was barn kept until just recently. It needs a floor and windshield but the hull is fantastic and the paint is in good shape as well. I've got the serial number and i think it may be an 81 model. My starchief had the serial number plate removed (go figure).

By the way, how are you guys showing the large pictures. I can only upload a 620 x 280

I'm hoping to take it to table rock lake in Branson next year. I've seen a few posts about the get together. What's the details and destination?

Ok Brad one question at a time :D. on the pictures I use photo bucket quite easy just upload your pics to photo bucket and then you can put them on here by using the little icon that looks like mountains and the sun bove where you are typing in a new post just copy the link from the picture on photo bucket and paste it into the drop down box that opens when you click on that icon .

Next what did you pay for the Staarchief ( not that we need to know but I wouldnt offer any more fofr the other one unless it comes with the trailer and then not alot more . I gve $800.00 for my Jupiter with the 80HP merc hngin on it but Andy stole his Jupiter for $400.00 .

Lst but not least heres the thread on the get together in the Starcraft forum you can get to the forum bu going down on the main page to the alphabetic boat listings Starcraft is in the last row to the right in the S's third name down :D. Currently tentatively we are planning on Lake Anna in Virginia the last weekend or so of June.

You really don't want to know what i gave for it. The word stolen might come to mind, but the gentleman i bought it from was very kind and generous. I gave 250.00 for her. What a deal. The 15 footer does not come with a trailer. I may just buy it for a few parts or to sell. BTW the old starchief side windows or whole upper cuddy is up for grabs if anyone is interested in making a trade. I don't think much else is good except the skeleton for the cuddy storage and floor supports. Otherwise it is only good for scrap.

Well I dont know what aluminum scrap is at the moment I do know number 1 copper is $2.14 and copper /aluminum is $1.00 ( AC coils ) :D but I would say if the hull is in good shape you would be ok around #200.00 - $250.00 . I would ask him what he wants for it first just in case he was to say Heck son fer a pictur of Mr. Franklin you can have her today :D.

:):D:D:D:D:)

Great news,

Thanks be to God i discovered the problem on my powerstroke. I found a loose plug in the back of the high pressure oil injection pump. Tightened her up, no leak.

Now, back to the SC. I have a pretty good pile of cedar that i had sawed after Katrina (neigbors trees- great guy). I am considering doing my cuddy and maybe even the floor out of cedar. I would glass the underside of it and seal the top. I would have to reinforce the back of it with some more runners, but no big deal. I have all i need to joint it into pieces wide enough to use. Anyone had experience with that.

I'm off to get my power trim checked out today!

Brad,

Good Deal on the starchief:eek: As far as the front cabin window, they were 1 pc plexiglass, I have my original, it is to scratched up top use, but I am taking it to a shop to use as a pattern and get a replacement made in tinted lexan, let me know if you are interested, and I will see if I can get 2 done cheaper;)

SOunds good! I guess we'd need to get a firm confirmation that they are exactly the same. I would be curious to know the price. Shipping it hear in one piece might be a challenge. My main goal is to get it power up. Looks like it will be a week before i can do that.

Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief Restoration

i'd still like to get some feedback on the cedar i mentioned a post or two back.

I mounted the Johnson 115 on the transom today. It seems to have a lot of flex. I stood on the food of the motor and bounced a little. There are stress cracks on the TRIM on each side of the motor. It doesn't appear to go down into the transom any. It has treated plywood for the transom. I plan to tear all of that out after i try out the boat and make sure all seems to be good. I've considered putting some stainless or alumium sheet over the transom to reinforce it to curb the flex.

This boat only has 1 knee on the transom and my older one has three. I may add the knees from the older boat to the newer one. There's also so stress fractures under the stern where the knee has flexed. I'll probably rivet in some sheet aluminum from the inside and seal it real good to prevent leaks there. Someone has JB welded it, but that is comeing off. What do you guys think?????

Brad I dont see a problem with the Cedar I think it would look good sealed up nice with resin .I think your ideas to strengthen the transom are fine extra knees cant hurt anything . I would say if you add some aluminum plate either paint it or cover the side thats going to be against the other aluminum with Gluvit just so water cant get inbetween them.

Re: 18' Starcraft Starchief Restoration

My main question has to do with repairing the older boats bottom. I have been to durafix.com and they appear to have a solution. It wouldn't be too bad. The worst spots are at the stern and exterior and the rest seems to be peppered through the interior. Any thoughts? Am i just trying to hard here to hold on to the boat?

That stuff is a bit of a scam, for a boat hull anyways the amount of heat you need to get this stuff to flow ruins the intergrity of aluminum, it turns brittle from being heated. Also they have to be using a special torch or preheating the metals on their videos. I tried with two mapp gas torches at the same time on some things and could barly get stuff to flow depending on how large the object was. Being made of aluminum the object is basically a giant heat sink and would cool faster than it could be heated.
