Ok, I finally have made some time to upload some pictures of the my rebuild. This will be in my opinion a total rebuilt. Replace the necessary rivets, floor, paint and motor. Unfortunatly at this point, it isn't very far along. But I do now have some insentive to get her done. The motor has been purchased. She is stripped down to bare metal at this point, and I have completed my first water test. Just waiting for the wheather to warm up a bit to start working on it again.

Anyway, hopefully this works and some pictures of the boat will come up. Trying to use photobucket for the first time.

These pictures are pretty much the way I got her. Before the I stripped her down.

Ok, photos didn't work out, will try again shortly to post them.

Just click on the bottom most box of the pic in your photobucket account (IMG) and paste it in your message.
Its very simple and the pics will be large and easy to see.

Nice rig... I am thinking about doing a center console fishing rig for my next project... Probably not going the tinny route, but not ruling it out either... What is the base hull (starcraft model) for your project.... Don't see many open plan, center consoles with starcraft on the side of them, but I really like how this is one is set up.

Thanks,
Patrick

Craney

The model is a Mariner, they all seem pretty much all the same an open concept, that is one of the reasons I purchased it. The boat has a dual purpose in mind. Fishing with my dad, nieces and two boys, secondly for duck hunting. Unfortunately the boat will be painted some type of green or brown to accomodate the hunting aspect.

EZ

You and I both. I started to look into some used motors, and from what I could gather, older opti's had some issues same with the etec. So I found some what of a deal on the etec, so I went new. The boat had a 80 merc on the back, but I was unable to get it running. With that being said, I am not mechanically inclined in regards to motors. So that added to my decision to go new and solve some of my head ache's.

pete

In my mind it looks good, now I just need to bring it to life.

With any luck, I am hoping to work on the rivets this weekend, if not at some point next week for sure.

Deal, hmmm, let's just say I paid a bit more than that, but in Canadian. Rigging, most of the rigging and gauges comes with it, special they had going.

Mine will be pretty much open concept as well except for the bow, going to rebuilt her pretty much the same as she was.

That is going to be a sweet boat!... and that repower is super sweet!!!

I would make a side console out of it though. If you get one of those big butted Canadian gals on that boat, she' going to fall overboard trying to get from the stern to the bow.

Update

Weekend was pretty eventful. Sunday, I was able to get alott done. I was able to train my dogs, teach someone how to shoot skeet, or should I say, point and pull, lol. I was even able to get all my rivets replaced that needed to be replaced. Now if the weather holds up I should be able to complete another leak test. If any luck they should all be sealed, again with any luck.

I also had to order in the Marine Plywood for the transom. I opted to go the marine grade on the transom, since I will have a pretty large investment sitting on there.

With any luck I should have some new pics up within the next coulple of days. Not much to show, but it will show the way the hull sits presently.

.

The part that you left out is how you left that person you took trap shooting in the vehicle for 2 hours while you fixed the rivets in the boat, LOL.

Re: 18' starcraft CC Rebuild - 1978

Well to anyone who is following, here is the latest...

There is good news and bad news...

Good news is, the 20 or so rivets that I replaced on Sunday, are all good :D. Most of these rivets were more at the front where the rollers were. So with that being said, opting to convert the trailer from a roller type to a bunk type trailer. This task will be taken on when I paint the boat.

The bad news:mad:, I apparently forgot 3 rivets that I had marked at the stern. The PO used steel rivets with holes that went thru and epoxied over them to seal them. No biggy, made the trip back to my friends to repair them, right...wrong, more bad news

These rivets were at the center brace which attach to the transom. Apparently all 10 rivets were in the bottom of the boat, but not one was attached to the brace. Therefore the brace was pretty much just sitting there. With all the reading I have done, I have never heard anyone mention that, so I never even thought of it. I was more concerned to make sure that the brace was all in tack and had no tears in it. Anyway, as I told SeeWorh again that it wouldn't take long since I only had to repair 3 rivets, once again, it turned into another 1.5 hour task. I think she is getting used to the fact, things just don't always go as planned.

Hopefully with any luck I will verify the status of the last 10 rivets within the next couple of days and the boat should be leak freek by the weekend.

Heading over to the states to pick up some supplies, gluvit, epoxy and with any luck a gas tank.

I also had taken some pictures of the boat in her current state, but forgot to upload the pics to photobucket. I should have some pics up by tomorrow.

Another update

Here as she sits right now. Gutted and waiting to be rebuilt.

I have decided I need to acquire some larger rivets to fill the 2 screws that held up the old hydrolic pump.

http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q586/starcrazy1/DSCN7048.jpg

I am going to also remove any old srews that were in the stern and replace them with rivets as well. This would be for simply cosmetic reasons and no other.

http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q586/starcrazy1/DSCN7049.jpg

Once this is done, we should be ready for the gluvit.

I have ordered the marine grade plywood for the transom, and that should be in within the next week.

Over the weekend, I will try to take some pics of the current transom that is lying in basement. It will make a good template.

Hope everyone enjoys there weekend.
