Great old boats, I'm restoring a similar one now, its a little different but still an old OMC boat. ITS OLD so likely has rotten wood unless someone has already replaced it, I thought mine was good when I bought it, but I was surely wrong.

Welcome to iboats.

Do you mean it has a little rot? Do some SEARCH for test holes or bore holes ...... afraid to say but rot starts on the inside and works it's way out....so what appears as a little might be allot below the decking.

Trust me, if that boat has never been touched, it's going to have rot, unless it's spent its whole life in dry storage.

If that's an inboard motor, I'd imagine parts are going to be near impossible to find for it.

I thought all those ones were inboards? But arn't they just a 2 stroke V4? like and outboard? Wonder how many parts are the same. It's more the outdrive that I'd be worried about getting parts for. Any OMC stern drive is hard to find some parts for.

Some were. His being a 150HP though it could be a car motor of some sort. Either way it's gonna suck for parts.

There is no way there was a Merc originally on an OMC boat. OMC made Johnsons, Evinrudes, and OMC stern drives. One of their boats would have been equipped with one of their powerplants. Are we talking about an outboard boat? If so, a Merc could have been swapped onto it at point.

Post some pics then we'll know. But its entirely possible that someone has swapped out a merc inboard and outdrive, that would be cool if it does.

Okay what doesn,t make sense explain

There are three basic types of marine propulsion systems:

1. Outboard - This is where the engine and drive components hang off the back of the boat as a single unit.

2. Inboard - This is where both the engine and drive unit are mounted inside the boat and only a shaft and propeller protrude outside the hull.

3. Inboard/Outboard or I/O - This is where the engine is mounted inside the boat and the drive unit is mounted outside the boat.

There are jet drive variants of both the outboard and inboard drive systems, but not the I/O. While most of the marine engine systems, especially inboard and I/O, are based off of automotive powerplants, they are typically proprietary and mixing one brand with another is usually cost prohibitive.

So..... figure out what in the heck you actually have and get back to us.
