Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Ok I made the decision to run all the wiring down the passenger side (port). The only thing that will have a few feet longer is the stern light and the engine sender wires. Those are all over sized anyhow. That will free up the drivers side for the control / ignition cabling, shifter cable, throttle cable and steering cable. I plan on making brackets like I posted last night to support them. I ran 3/4" PCV conduit clamps down the passenger gunnel this morning and across the splash well. That took 16, fixing to run out and get some more at lunch. Its funny that the stainless screws cost more than the clamps! I also came to the revelation that if I need a buss to collect the running light / radio hot wires.....I need one for the grounds also, duh! :D So I will need to pick up another buss.

Mick I,m still trying to figure out what use a horn is on a boat. Other than low speed, no one can here it anyhow. I just mounted it up under the dash.

Arch, any radio that has MP3 ability and an aux jack will work with the ipod. You will not have control of the ipod through the radio without a USB port . This only means that the ipod will not charge and all song selection is done through the ipod not the radio. I dont know how much you are looking at spending, but my brother can get anything through Petra or other various companys at his cost. I am buying a $300 dollar system for $100 bucks. This includes head unit and speakers, and the head unit is 100% ipod compatiable. If you are interested I can talk to him about it. It is all local so no shipping would be involved.

Thanks for the info Frog. So far I have been thru 1/2 a mile of wire and don't feel like I have much to show for it! (sore neck:D) I do have power to all the switches and the power to the light buss. I have all the gauge lights piggy backed and the horn powered. I'm headed to get more terminals....amazing how many you go through! I should have counted them the other day. I can also see needing more wire....yeah!

Hey arch,
looks like you are really starting to move.
The new shows look pretty cool too. Max should be happy with them.

Well its been a long day of wiring....3 trips to the store today...and I have a list for tomorrow....wiring is almost as bad as plumbing! I did make a lot of progress, but have a ways to go. Hopefully I will have everything wired up tomorrow that I have. By the way, in case anyone gets any ideas about kidnapping Miss Morgan, you should know she has a security guard! Buck is very excited about lake weekends!

Here is what I got done up under the dash. I plan on zip tying up everything and adding some more clamps once everything is terminated and finished up.

I was a little bum-fuzzeled this morning. I needed a couple of clamps, but didn't have any wood to screw them too. I ended up epoxying them on, worked great. I used a 6 minute gel epoxy, just dabbed it on, then stuck them in place. I didn't even have to clamp or tape them up.

Here are the clamps running down the passenger side gunnel. This worked out pretty good. I still need to pull things tight and zip tie it, but I think it will be pretty clean.

I did a short video, but youtube is still doing its thing. I'll post it later.

arch,
The clamps were a good idea for hanging wire. Looks like you are doing a nice clean job on the wiring too.
Keep up the great work

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Thanks guys, Bigboatinokie, I'll race you, hows that? If I get the rub rail at the end of next week, I'm hoping to get it on and have Max on Miss Morgan the following Monday or Tuesday. I should get the seats back around then....once I have them I can put in the carpet, mount the seats, and hook up the controls to Max. I should be close to splash then! I still want to add two small swim platforms on the back. So after I mark the water lines I'm still going to have a lot to do in the transom area. I'm debating not installing the depth finder and spedo till I figure out the swim platform. Well I'm off to get more wire!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Today I finished up all the wiring I could. I still need the radio and to figure out where the battery, and charger go to finish them. I also need the seats (which the controls mount to) so I can wire up the control wiring / tach harness. I added the daisy chains to the instrument power, instrument grounds, and switch grounds today. I also added the new buss ground and tied the light grounds into it. I'm not sure if you will be able to tell much from the pictures! Hope those labels get here soon while I remember what all this stuff is! By the way Skinny Chicken, we travel!

He meant race to see which one of us gets our boats done faster. A race on water would be no contest. However, I could probably win in a demolition derby.
