I hope everyone had a great day! Thanks for the complement HMCM, and thanks for all the info Icyharp. I started my day out by rounding up supplies (one of 3 trips by the, way.....I spend more time picking up stuff that working!) and stopping by a friend's house to cut down a tree. After lunch I hit the boat. I started out with fitting the tank and installing the hard points. Here is a shot of the dry run.

I also drilled for the filler, I was sweating bullets hoping to get it in the right place....I don't need to do any hole patching right now!

It ended up working out pretty nicely.

Thanks for doing the shopping for me on the tank "mat" Jay, I picked up this rubber one at HD to put behind and under the tank. I'm going to make aluminum straps to hold it in place and pad them with this garage door rubber. I think the same rubber will work under the swim platform brackets.

I am glad I could help. It works great for a tank cushion. I love those little tank mounts you made.

I ended up putting a single layer of 2 oz CMS under the hard points, seemed to work out nice. I mixed the resin on the slow sided to give me some working time, then kicked it with a heat lamp..

Then tabbed it in with two layers of 2 oz CMS, I don't think they are going anywhere without taking the deck with them.

The gas tank filler was too long, so I cut it off and reattached the cap chain.

Two words on polishing the stainless, emery cloth. I'm not sure why I didn't try it earlier.....but the 80 grit worked nicely to cut down some of the scratches. now it doesn't look like a professional did it, but I'm happy with the learning curve. Next time I will nail it, good enough for now. I realized today that I have to install the swim platforms before I can put in the tank.....so 1 down, 3 to go tomorrow!

Much nicer. The welds even look good. Gonna look great on the boat.

Thanks, a few more hours of sanding today and I'm calling it good! I also want to finish up mounting the tank and battery.

Ok I'm calling them good enough! Big learning curve with this stuff, next time I'm going to spend a little more time on researching the process. I did it the hard way, next time I will fork out the bucks to do it the easy way! lol!

I went back out to the shop and put the tank in....took some measurements...then decided it was time to call it a day. I can see me miss measuring and completely screwing something up at this point. But I should be able to finish up the tank this week and get the swim platforms on. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hmm just looking at the brackets, should I round off the corners?

i'm thinking yes. From looking at the pics the corners look sharp. Given the location of the brakets you wouldn't think anyone would manage to scratch themselves on em. Yea right.

Thanks for the input HMCM, I think its more of an ascetic issue than a functional one. You shouldn't be able to brush up against them. No progress tonight, mowed all 5 acres.....hopefully I will get some time on her tomorrow night.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

I hate it when life gets in the way of the boat....yesterday I mowed all 5 acres....tonight I decided that I needed to clean the shop. After that I made two steel brackets for a sail shade I bought. More or less it is a shade fabric you stretch between 4 post. I want to get it up next weekend, it should be a nice place to enjoy the view / breeze off the lake and enjoy a beer. So that means I have two evenings to get the tank in and swim platforms on ! Hopefully my freind David K will be able to lend a hands with that. I have been wondering, do you attach the brackets to the swim platforms, then to the boat.....or attach the brackets to the boat and then put on the swim platform? I can see issues with either method.

I'd clamp em on the brackets and then try dry fitting them to the boat and see what issues present themselves.

I was gonna say to the boat first, measured minus the thickness of the platform... But Woodonglass's idea is simpler and will probably work best... Depends on if you have an extra set of hands or not. If it's just you, measurements then mount. If you have a helper, clamp, hold and mount...

That is part of the problem, there really isn't a good way to clamp them on. The top of them will be below the splash well, so C clamps or C vice grips wont work. I think I will have to put some tape on the transom, lay out everything on that and drill it. Or put the platforms together, make a template with card board, then tape it on the transom and drill it.

What does it mean that the title of the thread says "splashed?"
Sorry, I'm new here.
Love your work, Archbuilder!
When I go to restore my Glastron, I'll definitely come back here for ideas! Fantastic!

What does it mean that the title of the thread says "splashed?"

It means he reached a stage of completion allowing him to use the boat. All this other stuff is just bonus! :D
