Bonehead move on my part.. (long but hopefully informative)

Being human and subject to stupid human tricks as much as anyone I pulled a super bone head move a few days ago. Being a proficient mechanic and long time machinist I like to do my own work so when my U-joint bellows sprung a leak and my gimble bearing went out I wanted to do all my own work to...

Where can I find new boat seats without the boxes?

I've looked here at Iboats but all I have found are seats including the boxes. My boat is a 1973 Glassmaster Tarpon Tri-hull with underseat tanks which have larger boxes than any I have found online. Please help, I need to replace my seats or have them reupholstered soon. :)

Quicky 165 Mercruiser gimble bearing question..

Found hole in U joint bellows

So that's probably where my whirring noise is coming from I asked about months ago. Don & others suggested it was probably gimble bearing and I haven't run the boat but briefly since then but will be replacing the gimbal bearing, bellows etc. asap. I had the job quoted at a nearby boat place...

Regular Minn Kota stand up to brackish sound waters?

I will be using mine on my small 12' boat on the back side of Hatteras Island in a couple of weeks but want to make sure that it's safe to do so. I figure the brackish sound water won't hurt it but I'd like someone to confirm that for me if they will. Thanks,

Model 1 (1973) water pump question

This one has got me stumped so far so I figured who better to ask than you guys. :) I am in the process of replacing my water pump with a sierra kit #18-3317 pump housing kit ( replaces Merc #46-57234A3). For my 73 Glassmaster 165 Mercruiser L6 My problem is that there seems to be no upper...

Plugging old holes from removed accessories?

Guys, what's the best way to plug holes that are there from removed accessories in the boat like snaps, screw holes etc.? My old Glassmaster has had it's share of bimini tracks, tonneau snaps added over the years to make it look bad leaving them be, so I wonder if there is a way to do it to...

    Fuel tank ground wire question.

My 72 Glassmaster has twin 12 gallon tanks with mechanical (non-electrical) guages. I assume the tanks should still be grounded but what should they be grounded to. Thanks, Bill

Best way to buy fuel filler hoses?

Guys, I need to replace my 1-1/2" fuel hoses that run from my fillers to my tanks on my 73 Glassmaster Tarpon I/O. Is this sold cut off of bulk rolls at boat dealer maintenance departments or can it be bought in in certain lengths, maybe here? Looks like I will need a little less than 3' for...

Light whirring noise I had in my 165 out drive...

...has disappeared upon greasing my gimble bearing. I think I missed that one or didn't grease it enough when I bought the boat last summer. I'm hoping it was just a little dry and no damage occured on my two short outings last month when I discovered the noise. If it comes back I already...

    My new tow rig.

This one is replacing my old 79 Blazer with 325,000 miles on it. It has been a good one but it's seen it's best days some time ago. This is my first new vehicle in 30 years (kept the wife in the new ones up till now). :) 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 ThunderRoad Hemi, 5 speed auto, tow package...

Dumped a can of lead substitute into my carpet.

No, I didn't just fumble around a drop it, I was pouring it into my port fuel tank filler. Seems my filler neck hose has popped off. Just flushed the interior heavily with water to dilute and wash it out the back. Not partial to intentionally washing out a carpeted boat with the water hose...

    Gimble bearing noise?

What does it sound like? 1972 165 hp Mercruiser 250 L6. 18' Glassmaster Trihull Just noticed a whirring noise a couple of weeks ago after running a short distance (full to cruise power) to a favorite fishing spot. I noticed it after idling down. Back at home on the muffs I couldn't hear it...

    Lake Norman, NC trivia question..

Anyone remember the Robert E Lee river boat replica docked just off off I-77 years ago. Or Onie's Landing? I grew up fishing that part of the lake in the 60's and early 70's. The river boat burned a long time ago but I have forgotten just when or the exact story. Anyone?

Can't find the correct inner bearings and cones..

..for my 72 Cox trailer that apparently has 1.437 inner bearing bores and 1" outers. None of the sets I have located have this combination. Is this an obsolete combination? I'm thinking my next bet is to try to locate individual bearings and cones by the numbers on them. Any other sources I...

    Just too hot to boat.

At least here in the middle of the Carolinas where the highs have been 102-105' every afternoon this week. Good thing a cold front is expected come tonight which should chill things down to 95 or so tomorrow. Do you go out when it's that hot? I can see maybe for water activities such as...

    PMP jel coat restorer?

Just talked to the owner of the company at the Mid-Atlantic Boat Show today in Charlotte, NC. He gave me a demonstration and the whole sales pitch but I figured I would ask you all here what you think of it (if you've heard of it or tried it) before laying down my $60 for the kit...

Pet peeve on ignored No Wake zones.

Today, in a local very small 350 acre trophy bass and crappy lake it seems that some of the boaters on the water think that no wake means 1/3rd to 1/2 throttle. You'd see them flying wide open right up to the well marked No Wake Zones, chop throttle to get the noses of their boats apparently as...

    Lost my GPS!!

Actually, I hope I've just misplaced it. It's a Lowrance H20 in case you see an extra one lying around somewhere. ;) It's funny, I can find anything with that GPS....except my GPS. They need a ringer on em like a phone.
