    Nope. I got on plane with my computer hooked up and even after the alarm went off and it went into limp mode the software didn't really say what was wrong. It logged code 72. Seems ridiculous it can go into limp mode and not log something more than that.. like overheat or low oil pressure.

    Okay... here I am again. From the beginning now... Engine blew a bearing last year. I rebuilt the engine. After getting it on the boat it seemed one side wasn't firing. I could disconnect the injectors on the port side and it made no difference to the engine RPM. That is now fixed I'm not %100...

    Thanks for the reply... and I think your right. I read on another forum that the lower water pickups were for cooling the front bearing. Had nothing to do with better cooling of the engine itself.

    I have a 2008 Yamaha 250HP. It has the additional water intake passages. I replaced the lower unit with one that was a couple years older that does not have the secondary water inlets.... I am having a problem with it overheating.... could this be a contributing factor??

    Found the problem. I must have let one piston slide down and smack the spark plug when I was changing the bearings. It bent the spark plug to zero gap.

    Same problem. That wasn't it. Guess I'll replace all the plugs. If that's not the solution I have the software getting here Tuesday so I can try and isolate the issue. I throttle up... gets the boat on plane... but I'm into throttle a lot more than normal. It then struggles to stay on plane...

    I'm not %100 sure on the hours it was my dads... he got it used. As I recall it was considered 'low'. I took off the OCV... looked clean. Tested it with12v it moved. Took the cap off the phaser and CAREFULLY put some pressure on the banjo bolt... I felt a small 'click' like it might have been...

    Obviously might want to triple check your tensioner is working correctly. If it is it's almost impossible for it to jump teeth like that.

    Cams installed the same way they came off. Is the valve timing adjustment 'off' at start?? That is to say... is the timing not adjusted by the ECM until much higher RPM than at idle??

    Oh ... yes I see that now. I cranked held spark plug against the block. Saw nice blue spark.
