If a cam phaser isn't working / stuck can / will that cause lower compression on that side of the motor? If so about how much are we talking about? I am having a problem with 3 cylinders on one side not seeming to make any difference if I disconnect all three injectors. I seem to have spark and fuel. Gonna go rent a compression tester in the morning.

to answer the question ' yes' if the "phaser " was to get stuck for some unknown reason then yes it would play havoc with compression on one bank.
that being said , you would also have limp mode or a no start situation, if on a vehicle the dash would look like a x mas tree.

when was the last valve clearance test ?? , / how many hours .

I'm not %100 sure on the hours it was my dads... he got it used. As I recall it was considered 'low'. I took off the OCV... looked clean. Tested it with12v it moved. Took the cap off the phaser and CAREFULLY put some pressure on the banjo bolt... I felt a small 'click' like it might have been stuck. Put it back and did a compression check [ I pulled the coil/s fuse ]. Without warming it up or pulling all the plugs just doing one on the port side one on the starboard side both sides were @ 150. Seems to run perfect now.I did this all in the wrong order. I'm now wondering if the phaser was stuck. Now when I disconnect any of the 3 injectors on the port side the engine slows down slightly as you'd expect.. it wasn't doing this prior. So... it's way too windy here now but will take it for a spin and confirm it's %100 first chance I get.

Same problem. That wasn't it. Guess I'll replace all the plugs. If that's not the solution I have the software getting here Tuesday so I can try and isolate the issue. I throttle up... gets the boat on plane... but I'm into throttle a lot more than normal. It then struggles to stay on plane. Warning buzzer goes off. Come back down to idle the buzzers goes off. As I recall this was a transition year as far as the rigging goes and the guy who helped get it working on the boat for my dad struggled getting his gauges working. The Yamaha fuel gauge works... the warning buzzer works... that's about it. No lights on the dash come on etc. So until I get the software hooked up I'm really just guessing. I had 150 lbs on 2 of the cylinders I will get the other 4 tested when I have the plugs out. I might pull all the injectors and soak the ends in some sea foam. The wife is talking about dragging me to Key West to go shopping 'since the boat isn't working' ... so it's getting serious now!!

Found the problem. I must have let one piston slide down and smack the spark plug when I was changing the bearings. It bent the spark plug to zero gap. 1734989250584.png
