IAC ( idle air control ) questions for 5.0 MPI

I’m getting 100 ohms on new IAC valves.

    Mercruiser 6.2 chirping noise

Thanks to all. I checked all these without findings. Although the original belt was nearly new and not previously noisy, I changed out the belt and the chirping has resolved !!

    Mercruiser 6.2 chirping noise

Group, I have a 2008 Merc 6.2 MPI Bravo 3 with 500 hours. We just had the engine out to replace a corroded Y pipe. We replaced the raw water pump, alternator and P/S pump. After about 8 hours, a chirping noise developed, apparently from the front of the engine. The serpentine belt is fine...

    Mercruiser y pipe corrosion

Has anyone tried powder coating or other techniques to minimize corrosion on the lower flange area of the aluminum y-pipe, which lives in bilge water and outside raw water? This $1000 part requires pulling the engine to replace!!

    Intake resonator for 6.2 MPI

Thanks! My engine is 1A079680 If not present, could the resonator be added to an older engine? The tb is in the center of the intake manifolds.

    Intake resonator for 6.2 MPI

A number of articles on the MerCruiser 6.2 MPI note the addition of an intake resonator and aft-facing throttlebody for intake noise mitigation. I don’t see these parts on my MerCruiser engine or service manual. Does anyone know how you can tell if they are present?

Boat wandering at slow speeds, videos attached

Has anyone actually installed smart tabs and NOT noticed an improvement? My 27’ Tahoe had a terrible wander. The transom shape also limits where tabs could be installed. With the new tabs, not only does my boat get planed off a few seconds faster, the wander is 95% gone.

Boat wandering at slow speeds, videos attached

When the boat wanders in one direction, the tab to the outside of the turn encounters more drag, which counters the turn. Smart Tabs cured 95% of the wandering on my 27’ Tahoe, even though I could only mount them 1/2 way up the transom.

    Lowrance LST 3800 compatibility

Thanks but as noted in the original post, changing the thru-hull transducer would require pulling the engine.

    Lowrance LST 3800 compatibility

Thx! The Lowrance transducer cable is HST-WSU. 106-48. I have the wiring diagram for the Lowrance, but most other 2 inch units don’t share their wiring diagram. I was hoping that someone would have an LST 3800 sitting on a shelf somewhere!!

    Lowrance LST 3800 compatibility

My 2008 Tahoe has a Lowrance LST 3800 in-dash depth finder with a thru-hull 200 Hz transducer. The display is failing and not amenable to repair, but the depth function works. I have been unable to find a replacement unit, and the thru-hull transducer can’t be replaced without pulling the...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

As previously posted, a rapid Deceleration regardless of the cause, can pressurize the exhaust ports in a stern drive, causing backflow up to the level of the water pressure. Even with higher risers, a high-pressure water pulse is probably washing back into the engine. This is why you mainly see...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

Do you have functioning exhaust flappers in place? Sounds classic for water entering backwards through the exhaust system. You are lucky if you have not blown head gaskets or bent a connecting rod due to hydraulic lock.

    idea for bilge plug alternative

My boat is also on a lift and impractical to reach the drain plug. Even with an automatic pump, the float can jam and “automatic” flappers and caged ball valves will leak with any debris. My solution was to buy a locking 3/4” Mueller gas ball valve (210-524HC) and reduce one side to 1/2” NPT...

mercruiser 5.0 mpi overheats at idle

Overheating that resolves with speed usually indicates a partial obstruction in the manifold water input on these raw water engines. While the impeller and its water input should be checked (and replaced every 1-2 years), if the engine cools normally at high speed, then a bad impeller...

Mercruiser 6.2 MPI Bravo 3 overheating

There have been many posts on mercruiser small block stern drives With raw water cooling and dry joint manifolds overheating. One scenario is that the engine overheats at idle but not at speed. Many owners have replaced the raw water impellers, thermostats and water circ pumps without fixing...
