Preparing for an outboard rebuild and restoration part 2

Hi, I posted a while back about buying an old outboard to restore it, and many of you were adamant about me checking the motor for compression. Well, I didn't. I found a Johnson 115 (which is what I wanted) for $300 and toss caution to the wind. I pulled it home, ran a compression test, and all...

Is it worth buying a motor with low compression?

Seems like these things can be had for pretty good prices. I am mechanically included. I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I've never not been able to fix my cars, even complicated repairs. Is there any reason why I'd want too steer clear of one with low compression?

    Boat auctions?

Anyone use a boat online, whether online or in person that they'd like to share? I'd like to grab a few projects, and I'd like to at least cut my research time in half if one of you can help. Thanks!

Why does my motor start on a single pull on some days and ten on others?

This might be a silly question. I'm relatively new to this pull start outboard thing. Is it a pretty normal part of life to make it a coin toss on how many pulls it takes for an old 2 stroke to start up? I have an 82 15 HP Evinrude. I'm the second owner. Motor is really clean and has been very...

    Gel coat or fairing compound

Hi! New here. I just found out about this place from Reddit. I am currently doing a restoration on a 1965 14' Cacci Craft. I've been doing quite a bit of fiberglass work to restore the inside area of the boat. I am closing in on the point of painting both the exterior and interior of the boat...
