The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
I rechecked the FSM and I don't see any issues. Now I'm thinking it could be spark related instead of fuel. Perhaps plugs or ignition coil. Would you see the symptoms above if 1 of the 4 cylinder was misfiring? Would I expect to see an engine fault?
2013 90hp Merc EFI 4 stroke.
Problem began after I changed hi and lo fuel filters, replaced float switch in the FSM, and vac tested the fuel pressure regulator at 5psi for a crack in the hose.
Now between 3k - 4k RPM, rpms will jump around, sometimes every few seconds. At 4k and above, it's...
Follow-up for someone that has similar issues in the future:
Removing & opening the FSM is easy if you take your time. Label or make a note of all the hoses. Before pics are good to have.
You don't need to remove the water hoses (starboard side) unless the case needs to be replaced.
I...
Thanks for the comment. I have the service manual, and it's a help along with 1st hand accounts. The video you pointed out is a big help. For others that have FSM issues:

Some more info on this - The engine oil is coming from where the input shaft enters the engine. If the lower was in place, the oil would be flowing down the shaft, unless the shaft is supposed to stop the flow. Could some seal or O ring be the problem? The oil pours out faster than a loose O...
I tilted the motor way up today to make pulling the lower easier on the back. When I looked at the shaft of the lower, the top 8" was coated with motor oil dripping downward. I went back and checked the outboard, it had dripped about 6oz of oil over the tilt tube and into the motor well. The...
I can't get the steering cable off the tube to get a jam nut on.
I think I'm left with holding the threaded starboard end of the tube with channel locks or vice grips. What's a good way to protect the threads? If I damage them, I'm in trouble deep.
That's exactly what I'd like to do. Unfortunately the port side cap nut with O ring is tight on the threaded tilt tube and when I turn the nut, The whole tilt tube turns. Some how I need to hold the tilt tube while I turn the nut.
A 2013 Mercury 90 Four stroke. The grease fitting in the middle doesn't go through to the tilt tube. The grease only gets to the gap between the swivel bracket and the transom bracket.
My steering is good, and I'd like to grease it after 10 years to keep it that way. The cable comes in from the starboard side and there isn't room to remove it enough to get to the rod. I don't want to life the engine. The port side nut has no tube threads coming through and I don't think...
My s/n is 2B073411. I don't see "poppit" or "pressure relief" on the mercury EZParts diagrams. Does this engine have one?
Why would it pee normally when the thermostat assembly is not connected to the engine?
Before storage, it stopped peeing. After a new impeller (didn't help), checking the thermostat, and lots of flushing, it began working - I didn't know why. Today first start after storage, it pee'd weakly, then stopped., then wouldn't pee again. I can push weed-wacker line about 2 feet into...
I first removed the prop, and the splines looked like they hadn't been greased in a while. I figured if an easy maintenance task like this hadn't been done recently, the shift and drive splines probably needed some attention. I had no issues with the disassembly, so even being bone dry didn't...
The impeller was just replaced by the marina before I bought the boat. Unfortunately he didn't lube the splines. Go figure. Maybe the new impeller is the reason for the springyness - nice and rubbery.
