Transom mounted trim pump motor wiring issue

Think I got all of the good out of this one.... Anyone have any experience taking this to a starter/alternator shop and having them rebuilt?

Transom mounted trim pump motor wiring issue

Ok everyone, I'm a little stumped and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have a 1978 Mercury 500 with the old transom mounted, external power trim pump. Uses 2 cylinders, 4 hoses, has the rectangle reservoir, One solenoid, and two button trim switches. I bought a...

    1978 Mercury 500 carb questions

Ok guys, in my frustration from working on my '63 Merc 650, I have gone off and bought a fishing boat that came equipped with.... you guessed it.... another old Merc. :faint2: I guess I'm just a sucker for pain! It's a 1978 Mercury 500 (serial # 4963671 fitted with the carbs that have the...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

I gotcha. When I removed it, I had the correct tool, but I understand someone else might have done it incorrectly. This sound is new though. I realize that everything works until it breaks, but I have a video of when I first got it back together and running and this sound wasn't there then...

    1957 Fleetform Custom Restoration

I think mine might be a touch different, same basic concept though. From what you're describing, I'm picturing yours latching on the tongue? My tilt part is just the back and that is the only place where there are bunks. I'm just going to weld it rigid and add/extend bunks.

    1957 Fleetform Custom Restoration

Alright folks... the moment I've all been waiting for! Got my cable clevises in today and installed them. Was sitting around afterwards and realized all I needed was some gas in the tank. I'm not sure if ya'll would consider this a first splash because I've still got a lot of work to do...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

Big update. Got my cable clevises in and installed throttle and steering cables today. Not sure if it would be considered a "1st splash" because I'm nowhere near finished, but I WAS able to put her in the water today. Of course there were issues that I will address in another post, but she DID...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

Thanks for the heads up on the screws and also for the compliment brother. I have checked the fasteners and for them to come loose would actually require bolts to pull through the glass sideways. These pulleys are attached to bolts that run vertically through where the top cap and the hull are...

    1957 Fleetform Custom Restoration

Had a couple of days to work on the boat. Got the helm freed up, cleaned, and re-installed, steering bracket built and installed, tiller cable replaced, and the remote controls taken apart and cleaned up. Did some continuity checks on the switch and it seems a little flaky according to my...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

Had a couple of days to work on the boat this week. Got the help put back in, steering bracket fabricated (still have to clean it up some and paint), tiller cable replaced, remote controls torn apart and cleaned (that was NOT fun, thank God for manuals), and the remote side of the wiring...

Need some Singer sewing machine advice please.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this thread (please correct me if it's not!!). I will have a little upholstery to do on a resto project that I'm working on and will probably try to do it myself. I have been doing some reading and saw that the singer 201 and 15-99 come highly...

    1963 Mercury 650 thrust hub/washer question?

Hello all. I'm restoring a '63 Merc 650 (Serial Number 1543001) on a 14' 1957 Fleetform runabout that weighs around 400-450 lbs. The engine came to me with a pontoon boat prop and I changed it out with what I believe to be a quicksilver stainless prop (48-72762A-4 19P). Noticed that when I...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

ok, I've taken the magneto back apart and found what I'm reading. I'm reading the coil. One wire of the coil is attached to the frame of the magneto, the other is attached to the terminal on the points, so when the points open I'm reading through the coil to the frame (ground). Disconnected...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

Also in case someone is curious and might could use this, I looked for the mercury timing tools and didn't find any that wouldn't require a loan to purchase. So, I built one. Took an old spark plug and broke the insulator and electrode out of the center (that's a lot more difficult that it...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

Just in case someone might could use this. I found an image of a PDF of a dwell plate and instructions for making a pointer for a mercury 4 cyl. somewhere online. Can't remember where, but I was able to blow it up a little and print it out. I cut the dwell plate out and then laminated it to make...

Need some help with Cable and Drum steering questions PLEASE.

Hello all, I am restoring a 1957 Fleetform 14' fiberglass runabout with a 1963 Merc 650 on it. The boat is fitted with a cable and drum helm and I was planning on staying with the cable and drum. I have been doing my best to do my own research before asking a bunch of questions, but a little...

1963 Merc 650 Choke Solenoid Replacements??

Has anyone found a new choke solenoid that will work on a '63 merc 650? I may be able to search around on ebay to find a used one, but also figured it's just a coil with a hole in it. I was also thinking that I am probably not the first person to try to modify another solenoid and find one to...

    1957 Fleetform Custom Restoration

Hi all. Brand new to the forum. I recently set out to find an old "junk" glass boat to cut up and glass a jet ski motor in for a fun project. I picked up an "old junk boat" from pictures on the internet for pretty cheap that turned out to be in much better shape than I thought. Turned out to...

    1963 Mercury 650 restoration

Hello all, brand new to the forum and very much in need of some help. I recently purchased a 1957 Fleetform Custom boat and want to restore it. It has an Evinrude Lark on it at the moment, but I have my heart set on an old Mercury. I've found 2 1963 Mercury 650's and really love the look of...
