Single point drain plunger becoming very stiff

Fourth year winterizing VP Regal. s/n's are in my signature. The previous two times I had to use a lot of force to push it down to drain the raw water side. Last year I had to pound it down with my fist. I don't want to continue this since I'm afraid I could break something I'm guessing the...

something new coming in electric OB

Cute idea, but physics makes it impractical, and expensive. Li ion batteries weigh about 10#/kWh. The std 75 kWh battery will weigh around 750#, optional 99 kWh battery +-1000#. ...Petrol is 6#/gallon, these batteries cut into a 180 hp boat's max load capacity significantly. 6 kWh charger will...

4.3 Replacing exhaust manifolds - ditch nylon drain plugs?

My previous '96 4.3 LX's blue nylon plugs survived 25 years of winterizing. Finger tight per @Bondo reply #6. No tape, no sealant. If they leaked I never noticed. 100% fresh water boating.

    Tool recommendations

Every tool mentioned above for diagnostics and basic disassembly. Getting into the power head and lower unit can get more complicated. Getting more than 6 hp from a 6 hp probably won't happen. Restoring a tired old 6 hp to 6 hp is doable. Remember the basics: Fuel, fire, compression.

Chainsaw cutting lube in a pinch

The original bar was an Oregon bar. Stenciled Husqvarna, stamped Oregon. The sprocket is the idler sprocket in the nose of the bar. Surprised me since I thought the bar oil would keep it spinning. Apparently not. I don't use it much, but after I do I run the gas tank dry. After 2-3 yrs sleeping...

Chainsaw cutting lube in a pinch

I bought my first new chain saw in 2008. Husqy 450 Rancher. I made sure it was full of their fancy blue chain oil, and ran it for several hrs. cleaning up storm damage. Then it froze up. hmmm? First saw I owned with a sprocket bar. Frozen sprocket. New bar, and one of those push grease...

1991 Rinker seems like it runs out of fuel.

I sounds like you isolated the problem by bypassing the water separating filter head. Might be worth removing it and checking for blockages. I don't see any problems with your workaround, as long as there is only a SS line from your filter to the original mechanical fuel pump. ...better if you...

    Tilt/trim pump

FYI. The two trim solenoids and the starter slave solenoid were the same parts in my past 1996 4.3LX power package. Useful in a pinch.

Adding Distilled water to battery. what qualifies as distilled?

My observations about rain water weren't to justify drinking the stuff, only to use it top off a battery. Many of my many batteries are "maintenance free". I'm guessing they're sealed against gas leaks and evaporation. I've ignored this and found a way to pop the cell covers. Most are full. I...

Adding Distilled water to battery. what qualifies as distilled?

I'm less picky. Rain water is condensed clouds. H2O. The only contaminates are what washes out of the air. My Pa in law collected it into a basement cistern for clothes washing before softeners were invented. Dehumidifier water is also condensed water vapor. Quite clean. My Mom used it in her...

Torqe for impeller housing in 3.0 merc i/o

I fabbed up these puller hooks. I put a small hose clamp around the rods above the carrier to hold the points in the holes in the seal carrier, and a smaller hose under the handles to keep them aligned. I've had to whack the handles up with a hammer on tough carriers. Do not gum out the holes on...

    What size prop and pitch

The drive reduction ratio is the key bit of information needed. Also prop pitch on your OMC is important. What ratio is in your OMC? What ratio is in the SEI drive you're considering? If they're the same or very close, use the same pitch on the SEI, assuming you're OK with past performance...

Lower unit wont seperate from top plate i/0 alpha one

I have a few oak wedges in my stash. If I can crack the joint a bit, it's coming off. ....Same for a lower unit pull. Dab a little waterproof grease on the dowels before buttoning it back up.

Honda BF200 temperature alarm during flush with mufs

My current VP 4.3 has two flush connectors. One on the transom, the other next to the engine. Same hose I reckon with a T to the water intake. I mention this because the illustrations in the enclosure and in a parts page I saw seemed to show two different connectors on your motor. If so, uncap...

Honda BF200 temperature alarm during flush with mufs

Check p. 75 of the attachment. It doesn't mention using muffs, only the flush hose connector. It also states to not flush through the connector with the engine running. Appears if you get flow out the prop exhaust you're getting the job done. You garden hose flow may be too low. FYI, My...

Fell for my first scam but fixed before anything happened

I'll try this next time. Previous versions of the bug/virus locked up the keyboard and mouse. So I mash the power button for about 15 sec and restart.

Fell for my first scam but fixed before anything happened

Same happens to my wife occasionally. She panics, I hank the power on her computer and restart. ...the key is not letting the browser, Firefox or Edge, restart when the computer starts back up. Often it goes right back to the culprit web page. Then I'll run the quick Windows Defender scan to...

Fell for my first scam but fixed before anything happened

I rarely answer unknown callers. If I do and they ask "is this Dave?", I ask who is calling? That stops most scams in their tracks. Never, ever answer their question with a yes. They may record the affirmative yes, and use it as your permission for some swindle. I sat with my neph when this...

Fell for my first scam but fixed before anything happened

We don't have a landline, just two cell/smart phones. If a call comes that's not in our contacts we push the off button and let it go to voicemail. Most of the scams move on from there. Those that leave a message are pretty easy to sniff out as unwanted. Same with text messages.

Say goodbye to Glastron as you know it

It was for a five month season & +- 25 hrs/year. But we the have river house with a marine rail lift. The house without a boat is like a cocktail without the booze. The whole expensive works is for our pleasure for hopefully 15 more good years. Then our two adult kids get to sort it.
