    The 61 model is better with needle bearings on rod journals.-----I pick these motors up ( 5.5 / 6 HP ) and usually make no attempt to start them.----They come apart for inspection / repairs as needed.

    I use my experience and thumb on the sparkplug hole.----Rotate flywheel by hand against compression and release thumb.----Judge by the " pop " I hear after a count to 2.----Also do it with pulling piston down to judge vacuum the same way.-----I did not learn this technique overnight either.

    I am quite sure there is a provision on the flywheel to pull it over with a rope !-----Do not use power tools on the nut !

    You need to find the pads.-----That is why I mentioned it.----When you buy used from some suppliers you do not always get what you need.----Is this a 2 wire or a 3 wire motor ?----Do you have the proper wiring relays if 2 wire?----A solenoid if 3 wire ??

    How to test VRO system

    If there are wires coming from the VRO it has an alarm.------A factory manual has a test procedure.----I would not trust a1985 version of VRO.

    He speaks of a 24' boat likely draws 2 to 3 feet.------Just need to be careful or perhaps a pontoon boat.-----Fishing is always good.----The catching not so much in these crowded waters.

    If you can afford a 24' boat you can afford the latest in electronics.----Get a GPS / moving map unit.-----Tells you exactly where your boat is and where the rocks are.-----And more important where there ARE NO ROCKS.-----Looked at the chart and I would think GPS is a MUST have item.
