How To Plug An Old Engine Into NMEA 2K

yes............ Seems solid enough and true, the particular analog sensor/s have to scale properly for the what is expected at the particular input/s.

    Tach

So yes, sort of, but depends....Think "Forward Current", "iF", forward biased NOT reverse! https://circuitglobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/maximum-forward-current.jpg If the diodes forward current ("iF")rating was/is greater than of the max current that the stator could produce, then no...

    One battery losing power

Hmmmm, I guess I'd have to be there to look at it. However, there HAS to be a current draw on that specific battery when it's in that specific position relative to the others, right? Something electrically has to be different about that position in the line-up....Same size, same capacity, same...

    One battery losing power

So, as I mentioned above, if it's the same capacity as the others, must be bad battery then eh?

    One battery losing power

Assuming all the battery's are good and equal'ish in capacity?.......Sounds like how your toon is wired, the 48V that is needed to run the motor is made up of a series 4-12V batts? The manu then has tapped off (and switched) 1 of 4 12V batts to run 12V to run dash stuff, like stereo, lights etc...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Yes, charging Lithium's at too low of temp(chem makeup can vary it somewhat) isn't good for them, I used Polymide heaters on a LiPo starting battery design for my snowblower so the batt c/would safely charge at lower ambient temps. Dewalt etc, even inhibit charging for their Li-ion's below some...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Got ya.... So yes, complicating things by adding or having a BCM or such, and as you mentioned, the marine alt's are still relitively simple, so why make it worse when running lithium? I think the manu's have it right w putting a/the BMS internal to the battery where it manages itself...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Maybe we're on two different pages? I was referring to the "BMS" which resides internal to the Lithium battery.........Nothing from the battery runs to the alt cept the normal charge wire, hooks up with two posts just like a AGM, Flooded...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

I think most modern alt's these days have clamp circuitry to protect "over shoot" when and if the alt's load suddenly disconnect, BUT also there is still loads (passive and active loads) that remain the alt's charge path even if the BMS opens itself from the alt. So in reality, the alt doesn't...

    24v charging

This is funny!...........How bout just using a good ole "On-Board Alternator" 2 bank charger? Here's Minn Kota's It is dc-dc, yes and Minn Kota doesn't call it that, although technically that's is its internal design type. But more-over, this thing is designed for specifically charging batt's...

    Connect Lowrance to Yamaha engine

Sounds like the backbone is terminated correctly..........A 120 ohm on each side equates to 60 (120//120 = 60) Perhaps something from https://continuouswave.com/ might help, see link below for more depth on the specific hookup type you're dealing with...

    Connect Lowrance to Yamaha engine

Are terminators installed at each of the extremity ends of the "backbone"? If so, you should measure it at around 60 ohms (NOT 120 or 40) across data pair signal lines(Blue & White)

NMEA adapter to connect Garmin chart plotter and iCom radio?

I'll assume you're hooking up for DSC/DSE.... So in your hand, as you probably already know, you're holding the ICOM's NMEA0183 comms wires, your Garmin is very much capable AND can communicate/hookup with NMEA0183(as well as NMEA2K) devices such as your Icom VHF. You require nothing else but...

    Honda RPM gage signal voltage

Faria says your 4 stroke 90 has 4 poles, if this is accurate then I believe your gauge's setting dial should be set to "4". "switch on the back of the tachometer to the correct position to match the number of poles in the alternator" Perhaps your gauge is messed up esp since you said you've...

42 amp alt ford 302 engine

There might be a bad diode(output seems a little low) perhaps creating enough extra noise to make the meter jump around, but also think its the meter having sampling issues with a bit extra alternator noise ........If this measurement is from the B+ of the alt., then of course the battery is...
