Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Do I use any kind of sealant on the bolts through the transom? I’m pretty sure the guy I bought the StarCraft from used 5200 on the transom assembly when he put the new transom in. Sure looks like it. So that one is probably going to be stubborn to come out… if only he didn’t screw up the...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Do I need 5200 for anything with this swap or anything? I wasn’t planning on shift cables or anything as the assembly was running fine in the donor boat 5200 isn’t available locally anymore except at a couple marine shops farther out so if I need it I have to get it

2019 Mercury 20HP EFI 4 stroke, hard initial start.

It has an electric fuel pump after basically a mechanical pumped reservoir that has a float in it. Wonder if it’s siphoning. It’s basically the bottom half of a carburetor and the high pressure pump might be part of that assembly

    1984 starcraft islander

Pic looks like marine grade which would be Douglas fir, AAX plywood basically. How thick is it? Looks like it’s varnished. You could use exotic woods like Ockume or Meranti but you don’t need to and that is a stupid expense… simply ABX or better but you could even get away with CDX in a pinch

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

May 18th-19th is the day that hopefully I’m able to swap the drives and at least get the new engine in. I might actually send it down the road to a marine shop to get it serviced if it needs anything. There is actually a shop local that will do older stuff. Boating season is basically here so...

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

I was kind of thinking about keeping a spare hub. I just have to find the right hub now.. I’m hopeful that the ‘good’ side i didn’t touch will have legible numbers on the seal. It appears these bearings my trailer uses 2 of is commonly used on a stepped axle with 2 bearing sizes

    1984 starcraft islander

If the plywood supplied is rated exposure 1 and is light in color it’s safe to use.. if its dark like pressure treated than no.

    Title Issues

There may be a way to do a court ordered title. But yes in NY boats were titled after 1986 so there’s no easy way. Unless it’s 14’ or smaller as those remain transferable registration

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

I bought every bearing kit that tractor supply had in stock. Brought them, a tube of marine grease and all the tools I should have needed. Pulled the hub off and the inside bearing came out in pieces. Once I got it off and cleaned it up i found out I had none of the right bearings. I had 1...

Wiring my 14’ sea king from scratch….help!

On a 14’ like that, I assume it’s a tiller. Dual battery would be overkill unless you have a trolling motor, and with a 9.9 that in itself would be overkill.. I have a 14’ runabout and a 25hp Suzuki that outputs 14a iirc. I use a 4 circuit blue sea systems fuse block and a battery switch. That...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

That’s a complicated question and answer. Epoxy is superior BUT it is not the most cost effective or required and can actually complicate things… your boat is polyester resin so MEKP is the hardener and it usually is included. It is required. Cure times vary depending on temp, humidity and how...

    Easiest Conversion

The OMC stringer transfers the load directly to the stringers. Mercruiser, Volvo and OMC cobra transfers to the transom. You may find you need to change the design structurally as well as close up the hole, but there’s also a good chance that your boat was available with a mercruiser so it may...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

If you really want extra strength, the only way is to increase the amount of plies. You can do this by using more ‘sheets’ of thinner plywood. That will get you more plies for your target thickness. Going to 1/2” plywood would be as thin as you would want to go, and you would want to target 2”...

1990 OMC 4.3l Cobra ASKING FOR ADVICE

Manifolds if they are good have some value to a penny pincher keeping a drive going. Same with the rest of the parts

Gimbal Housing Studs for a Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 1. Need the specific part # or size for these.

I'm probably going to be in the same boat so I looked it up. .437-20 is 7/16"-20 If your frugal enough, you could make them out of a bolt. Needs to be stainless is all

I knew about the seal but what are the isolation mounts? are they the 2 fiber washers on the rear motor mounts? I've watched like 4 youtube videos so I have an idea on what to do but every video was incomplete so it's only an idea
