Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

I was informed that if I bypassed the ignition switch with a jumper, that the motor would crank. It didn't.

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

With the key on the ON position, turning it further clockwise didn't not engage the solenoid to engage the starter. Since I cannot be in two places at the same time, testing the white wire while turning the key to start will have to wait until I have another person with me.

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

UPDATE: Well I made the connection with the Yellow/Red to the White and still no response when turning the key.

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

I see it now. The 2 red and 1 orange wire go to BATT, the purple, blue and red wires go to IGN and the white wire goes to ST. There is no yellow wire as it shows on the diagram. If I'm correct then, that white ST wire is the same wire that I show connected to my terminal block. If that's Start...

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

Thank you BT! I'll take a closer look. I do have this schematic I'm sure as I've created a huge folder of Mercruiser service manual documents in PDF. I will go take a look and post back to you. Thank you sir!

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

Couple of things Kenny. GREAT to know about the Pertronix! I actually have the Pertronix II module and coil that goes with it from the other engine. The other engine had a new Pertronix1 in it when I got it. I discovered that with Pertronix1, if you leave the key on you will burn up the module...

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

That's a NO Bondo. I checked it with a multimeter. Key on or key off that white wire does not get power. Correct me please but isn't white usually a neutral wire? With the key OFF the upper right terminal with the 2 red wires on the key switch is hot. With the key ON BOTH that terminal and the...

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

Yes, the engine runs. He sent me a video of it running while sitting in his driveway. 5.7 set up for Volvo when removed, with center riser manifolds. Four barrel carb and fresh-water cooling. Also has Volvo crank driven raw water pump. Starts and runs great. Idles smooth. Compression on all...

I'm not seeing a yellow wire to this ignition switch, Bondo.

Needing Wiring Assistance After Engine Swap

Not going to bore you with an essay on the history of this boat. I'll gladly answer any questions you have however. So for the sake of being brief with the immediate issues, I'll share just the pertinent stuff. - 1976 Fiberform 24ft w/Ford 151 - despite sitting 2+ years I got the motor running...

    Pleas help pertronix conversion

Either replace it with Pertronix II or make sure that you don't leave the key in the ON position for very long.

    Pleas help pertronix conversion

I have to ask. Are you running Pertronix I or Pertronix II. I learned this the hard way. While they both will work, if you leave the key in the ON position for any length of time with the motor not running, you will burn up the module. Pertronix II is the answer to that problem. Just an FYI.

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

If that's the case then there's VERY little there to mount this plate with any great strength. Maybe I'll look at bypassing the switch altogether and just run the cables straight to the pump. Basic hydraulics up and down.

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

Yer KILLIN me smalls! LOL. first off, I would think the lock out being a safety measure would be a good thing. That said, what is your argument to ditch this feature? Secondly, I have NO idea the ballpark figure on what you're promoting, do you? (Asks the guy holding the thin wallet)

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

Well I've studied this option for several days. The end result is I have no idea is this location will support it. I know nothing about what's below the mount plate. If it's just insulation, I'm screwed. I'm sure there's some type of framework there but is it enough? If it were you, would you...

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

So this is where it's going. Had to remove the switch in order to get some more length to the wire as it was tangled with others but I think this will work.

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

Both those locations I believe are doable but the switch wire would probably have to be lengthened. I'll have to remove the mounting bracket from the plate and see how it sets but I supposed I could use short spacers if I needed it elevated a tad to compensate for any hardware on the backside of...

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

BT both those cables are I believe to be original. The only thing done was disconnected all the wiring and cables to drop the 5.7 in. Nothing has been modified. All I know about the drive is that it is an Mercruiser 888. I'm not sure if that means pre-Alpha or not. Remember the production year...

    Ford to Chevy Shiftplate Relocation

Here's the sum of my biggest issue with the shift plate. The original shift plate location was on the Ford bell housing. The way that bolted up, the cables ran from left to right, the right being where the lock out was. Now that the Chevy bell housing no longer supports the shift plate due to...

    updated shift plate 864363a1 wiring

yimmyb, I know this is a bit late but while I know very little about marine electronics, ok I know next to nothing. But one thing I did learn recently is that my Ford 351 was recently upgraded with a Pertronix I module, just before I bought it. After doing my own research I discovered that with...
