Alpha One Clicking in Forward, Stalls in Reverse

I got it. I double checked all my adjustments and then moved that stud up a little bit. All is well now. Starts, runs, prop goes in forward, stops in neutral, and goes in reverse. No clicking and no stalling.

Alpha One Clicking in Forward, Stalls in Reverse

I’ve watched that one and another one by SEI. I think I followed all their steps/measurements, but still no reverse. The SEI one does talks about moving that stud up in the slot. I just wanted to make sure it’s not odd to have to move it up with a new cable. They make it sound like it’s to...

Alpha One Clicking in Forward, Stalls in Reverse

Did some adjusting and the clicking in forward is gone but reverse won’t engage. Doesn’t stall shifting into reverse though. Do I need to adjust again or is it normal to have to move that lower cable stud up to get it to go into reverse with a new cable?

Alpha One Clicking in Forward, Stalls in Reverse

‘87 4.3/175 Alpha One Gen 1. Got the fueling issue solved and got it running, but that’s just brought up a new problem. Just got the drive back on after replacing bellows, impeller, new shift cable, new sealed gimbal bearing and greased u-joints. Put it into gear to make sure it was shifting...

    1987 4.3/175 Crank/No Start

Problem solved…and so dumb. The yellow hose is the overflow from the pump to the carb. Old one shrunk so much it wouldn’t reach the carb. When I put the new hose on I zip-tied it to the fuel line. Apparently I cinched them too tight and it pinched the hose closed and kept the diaphragm from...

    1987 4.3/175 Crank/No Start

There is gas and it should be okay. Before putting it up for the winter, always add stabilizer, top off the tank and run it until the fogging oil stalls it. The lines should be good…it ran fine just before we put it in storage. The little filter in the pump? We’ve only had this a couple years...

    1987 4.3/175 Crank/No Start

Got the bellows replaced and the drive back on…aaand, now it won’t start 😤. Looks like it isn’t getting fuel. I’m assuming the mechanical pump should pump fuel whenever the motor’s turning? No sensors or anything? I pulled the fuel line at the carb and tried cranking it and nuthin’. Tries to...

    4.3 Carb…What’s That Hose?

1987 Mercruiser 4.3/175. Found this hose that came loose from the carb. Common sense says it goes to the elbow, but it is way too short. Can I splice in a small piece of hose? Happen to know what size that is?

    4.3 Main Breaker Cover

While messing with the trim sender wiring, it got me to wondering, is there a place to get a replacement cover for the main breaker? As you can see, I think ours is more electrical tape than plastic at this point.

Alpha No Trim Limit Switch Connectors

Replacing bellows (Alpha 1 gen 1) so I was replacing the trim limit/sender. Sender is easy enough…I can trace the wires to the rings on the distribution block. Limit switch wire goes into a taped wiring harness and then into the big plug (circled in the picture). Are the connectors taped up in...

Alpha Gen 2 Trim Switch Retainer on a Gen 1

I’m in the process of doing the bellows on our Alpha Gen 1. Figured I’d replace the trim switches while everything’s apart, but the top bolt on the retainer ring is a major PITA. Can the retainer ring from a Gen 2 with the single bolt work on a Gen 1?

    Engine Cover Replacement Handle

A while ago, I posted asking where I might be able to find a replacement handle for our engine cover. As you can see, the vinyl one had seen better days...the one on the other side had already broken. Went on A-zon and got a set of kayak carry handles. A lot more sturdy and the perfect size.

    Name That Noise

Any thoughts what this whirring kinda noise might be? 175hp 4.3 seems to run fine, temp and oil pressure fine. Just a constant whirring kind of noise.

    St Mary's Ohio Lake

Probably stick to Kozy, but no permanent site, we're weekenders. I saw where they were doing the age restrictions, but I thought you could get a waiver if it was older than 15 as long as it was in good shape. We'll see. I've seen some pretty raggety campers there over the years. We've never...

    St Mary's Ohio Lake

Good chance we'll be seeing some of you up there this summer. Was at the grocery store the other day and got this text from the wife. She went and looked at it on her way home from work this morning and it looks pretty good. Looks like we're gettin' us a camper which means we'll probably be...

    St Mary's Ohio Lake

Kozy is one of the campgrounds with quite a few canals winding back through it. When you get back in there where there isn't a lot of movement, the algae still looks pretty bad, but it gets much better once you get out onto open water. Even years ago, when the water was bad, there were still...

Alpha 1 gen 1 4.3 merc prop size

We've got an '87 Starcraft SS201 with the 175hp 4.3 and Alpha. We're running a Ballistic 14.5x19. It was on it when we got it so I couldn't say how well it works compared to others, but it's worked great for us (and my FIL who had the boat for 20+ years before we got it from him). Stainless...

    2022 NFL Conference Championships

I am from Cincinnati and even I would say the Bengals. I think they've shown they can be a relevant team again and could be a great team if they can get a decent O-line to protect Burrow. They've got a big hill to climb this week though: 1, they're playing in KC which is a notoriously tough...

    New pistol for carry

I like my Taurus G3C. Doesn't feel too small to shoot comfortably. Now that they finally reopened the range ~3 miles from our house, I need to start picking up more 9mm. Liked the G3C enough that I also got a TX22 for cheap shooting.
